Requesting NexXxoS GPX GTX 970 M03 Mounting Help

I just saw Tom's review of the NexXxoS and just happen to be having trouble mounting my NexXxoS GPX GTX 970 M03 to my Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX-970. He mentioned if you have any trouble to post on the forums, so here I am. I normally just watch Tim's reviews and never post, sorry.

I have tried contacting Alphacool through their website and by posting on their forums but haven't had any response yet.

The instructions show to put the plastic washer on the M3x12 screw then put the screw through the backplate. There is no problem doing this for the two screws near the video card bracket. However the other two screws near the video card power plugs have a problem. The fins of the backplate are too close to the screw hole. The wasters hit the fins and don't sit flush with the black plate. Am I installing this correctly?

I have an idea to fix it but it requires using a Dremel to grind down the fins and clear some space around the screw hole.

Im a newbee so I can't use the IMG tag for the pictures.

One of two holes near video card mounting bracket. No problem here.

Supplied washer near two problem holes. Notice no room around holes to allow washer to sit flush against the backplate. These are the holes I am planning to Dremel.

Fins prevent washer from sitting flush.

looking at the instructions you posted (although they are very grainy so can't make out properly), there are only 4 with washers that are on the back near the PCI-E slot, rest don't have washers by the looks of it.

Hi,

As above the washers are only for the area arounf the PCI-e connector where the back plate has been thinned.

Although it is not clear here the washer should also be under the back plate. I will ask alphacool to update the instructions with a better picture.

This is how I see it too.

Correct, the rest of the screws are flat head hex types, the holes in the back plate are smaller. The four in the back use socket head hex types, holes in the back are larger and without the washer the screw simply falls through the hole.

With the washer under the backplate and the screw tightened all the way there is still ~1.5mm gap since the screw head and it just passes through backplate.

I received an email response today from alphacool asking for pictures. Hopefully they know what's wrong.

The washer goes on the bolt to stop it going through the back plate by the sounds of things dude

I went ahead an took a Dremel to the backplate, ground down the metal around the hole to clear room for the washers. I used some metal washers instead of the plastic ones. Finally I didn't have any black paint so I used a black marker.

Its not pretty but my sound card will hide it. The rig is being leak tested now.

Don't get why you did that. I really dont think there is meant to be washers at those spots. You can't exactly return the product for RMA now if you needed to.

If you were really desperate to put a washer there. why didnt you just file the washer down so it was the same diameter as the bolt?
