Requesting Advice on Upgrading

So, I've been planning for a while now to give my computer a big upgrade, mainly the shift from AMD to Intel, not that anything is wrong with AMD, just that the Intel CPUs of the time are quite a bit faster than AMDs.

So my current system consists of:

Case: Fractal Design R3

HHD: 3x Hitachi Deskstar 7k1000.C (2x RAID0 + 1x)

SSD: 2x Corsair Force 3 60GB (RAID0)

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB @ 925MHz - 1350MHz

RAM: 4x4GB Kingston HyperX Genesis @ 1600MHz

PSU: Energon 650w

Mobo: ASRock 870 Extreme3 R2.0

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.6GHz - Noctua NH-D14

So i want a faster CPU, that will be best for my use of it.

So what do i use it for? Well, a lot of different things, mainly programming and gaming.

I'm getting into game development and i would like to have a fast and responsive system to be able to compile and run the game.

I've got a "pretty" good budget as I'm working a lot at the moment, so price is of course a consideration, but i would rather use a lot of money than getting a second class CPU/Motherboard.

What are you ideas and or recommendations?

I would wait a little, maybe ivy isnt that far away, now benchmarks have been released.

But the energon psu i would change right now.Corsair, seasonic or enermax would be a nice upgrade.

Yeah i know, it still does it's job tho, would love a modular one tho as its quite a mess with all those cables.

I guess i could wait for Ivy Bridge and just upgrade my PSU for the moment.

Yeah wait for Ivy as it's just around the corner
