Hey guys.

Ok, lets go down the list. My primary gaming rig has the following hardware:

CPU: Intel Core i7 980X @ 4.5 GHz

Motherboard: Asus Rampage III Extreme

Memory: Corsair Dominator GT 12GB Kit DDR3-1866 CL9

GPU: PowerColor Radeon HD7970 LCS

SSD: Corsair Force GT 240 GB

PSU: Enermax Revolution 85+ 1250W

Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D

Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2711, 27" with 2560x1440

Watercooling:

Radiator 1: WaterCool MO-RA3 with 4x 180x180x38mm SilverStone air-penetrators @ 700 RPM

Radiator 2: Thermochill TA120.3 Triple Radiator with 120x120x38mm SilenX iXtrema Pro @ 1000 RPM

Pumps 1 & 2: Laing DDC-pump 12V Ultra

CPU waterblock: Koolance CPU-360

MB waterblock: MIPS ASUS Rampage III Fusionblock

Reservoir: XSPC Laing DDC reserviour Dual Bay 5,25" for two pumps

This is how the computer looks now:

I've been trying to downgrade that computer, ever since it was finished for my Surround setup. I used to have 3x 1080p for gaming and that's nearly 2 years back now. Back then you needed a ton of power. So I had the in my mind best system possible at that time for gaming. The system was used as a dual loop, and I had 3x EVGA GTX480 SCs in 3-way SLI for Surround and a GTX460 only for PhysX. If anybody is curious how that looked like:

For F@H purposes I had a secondary rig which was a server/workstation type build. I got rid of that thing since I stopped folding in January of this year. But it did a phenomenal job.

Hardware of this Foldingfarm:

Motherboard: Asus KGP(M)E-D16

CPUs: 2x AMD Opteron 6272

Memory: 8x Kingston DDR3-1333 CL9 ECC 2GB

GPU: MSI Radeon HD 5450

PSU: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro P9 850W

CPU Coolers: Noctua NH-U12DO A3

Case: Antec P193

I had this folding farm for over a year. First it was equiped with two AMD Opterons 6128 CPUs which gave it 16 real cores at 2GHz. Later in the year I decided to update the CPUs and sold it because I got a good seller.

And here a picture of that thing. One of the few I have left:

To give ya an idea how good that type of a computer performed:

CPU (toal number of Cores) PPD (SMP/BIGADV/BIGADV16) Wattage consumption OS

Asus KGPE-D16 | 2x AMD Opteron 6128 @ 2 GHz (8/8) 37.000/47.000/77.000 280W Ubuntu 11.1

Asus KGPE-D16 | 2x AMD Opteron 6272 @ 2,1 GHz (32/32) 65.000/94.000/135.000 365W Ubuntu 11.1

I think I've mentioned everything.

Sorry mate. I didn't see the message it seems. But I'm happy it worked out. I just didn't see the topic all of the sudden...

Don't worry. I'll catch up on how things work around here

Well I'm a sick human being. I overclocked my Core i7 980X to 4.5 GHz and it need 1.5V for that. I know it's a lot, but since I monitor everything 24/7 I'm good. And I am looking for a cherry picked 980X or 990X replacement. I get about 60°C on the CPU and 78°C max on the cores if I stress it. But for everyday usage I never see 60°C on the cores

The 360 radiator obviously could never cool that down. I have a long single loop now, no dual loop, so the MO-RA3 gets to cool it. with the 360 radiator I could cool 1.42V to maybe 1.44V. And this meant 4.4 GHz and the temperatures would be a little higher than they are now...
