Well FTTC should come along within the next decade, the only issue is virgin's cable is technically faster (50 Mbps compared to 40 Mbps) and they will probably install it in more or less the same places. I have a 100 meg fibre line on BT's private trial so it's all good for me

However I live in the sticks, where the average age is probably well over 50 and the number of users for internet is pretty low. Hence at 3:30-4:00 am (as every enthusiast knows a brilliant time to install XP etc.) I got 7MbPs. The limiting factor was actually the websites' download (for drivers) servers. (4.5MbPs) -thats bits not bytes people

I`d use the money be paid to make such stupid 6 month reports to pay for things.

It annoys me as I personally think the UK Government should make all the ISP's put their share into a big pot of money and go out to tender for one firm to do the entire country, with each ISP owning a share in the whole. That way everyone pays and everyone has a benefit when the service improves. Fines could then be levied to those ISP's don't who take part and eventually it would mean they cannot use the new network
It annoys me that the government doesn't do a moderately sensible thing and conduit (that is put all cables together in a sealed box, big enough to walk in to do maintenance and cable relaying) everything (except maybe seal gas off inside another). This would make cable laying about the price of the cable plus a couple of quid for labour per metre. This one time investment would save in the long run. The Government needs to realise it needs to invest, not throw the problem at someone else.
Well the government need to spend it on other important factor (not that I know what on) than spend it on Internet service. To be honest I think that everyone should be getting speed to which any website should load up quite quick, but then there are those that are experiencing super slow broadband, in which I think they should get the higher priority when it does finally come to changing the wires for fiberglass

Every major city could have mass fibre optic laid under the train lines.
Branch off it. They`re replacing train track all the time, as commuters will tell ya.
Use the threatening-worry-stick too, that if they don`t agree, they`ll let some US or EU firm come in and pipe to every house.

20 billion of which would probably be for kick-backs and back-handers. 30 billion is a joke.

Sorry if I sound racist here guys, I am not trying to be if it comes out like that.
The government wastes TOO much money on sending help to Africa, they can't support themselves so yes we try to help them out but I am starting to realise.. as I have been told by my dad which makes sence to me now, we are never going to see a return on that money, we are NEVER going to get aid if we need it from them so why should we help them out? I don't see the point in sending billions over to them to try and help them when all they do is go in with different people every night and spread the HIV/AIDS!

And I don`t want to take this off-topic, but Africa is a failed experiment imo. There is no way in hell that mankind started in Africa - if it did we wouldn`t be here today.
Aiding Africa is a common way to make people feel better about themselves, little aware that it`s like throwing snowballs at a flaming meteor hoping ur going to stop it.
Can't see how not wasting money there when we'd waste it somewhere else anyway is gonna get me 50 trigabit connections tho.
