Realistic way of testing OC

This is probably a dumb question but is there a realistic way of testing OC's? I want to OC my 780 and in some benchmarks it runs fine (3DMark, Heaven etc) but in FarCry 3 it freezes after about 3mins and requires force closing. Not sure if FC 3 is the best game to test OC's though. My setiings are +100mhz core and +200mhz memory in precision X and my GPU is EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX 3GB.

Every game and benchmark behaves differently when you overclock your GPU and max settings in one won't always work in another.

It is a case of trial and error finding what works and what does not.

As to testing I would use 3dmark firestrike extreme preset, Heaven 4 extreme settings, 3dmark11 p preset and your favourite games.
