Iv just tried to talk my friend through a winows re-install over the phone. he booted from the disc and got a message that read 'disc boot error: memory overflow'. the machine is using a 2.6 celeron and 512MB ram so i cant see how this would be caused be a lack of ram. could it be refering to the buffer on the HDD? or maybe caused by the fact that the disc drive is a dvd/cd-rw? any suggestions or ideas on how to get around this without me putting his HDD in my pc?

cheers

was he using a slipstreamed install, if so there may be corruption on the disk. If so, redo the slipstreamed disk. Failing that, the reason that Tec gave will cause this error as well. :)

Try just taking out the disc and wiping it off real quick, I've had that problem before. After a quick cleaning it works like butter!
