Random Shutdown issue

Hi guys,

First off I'll start with specs then I'll explain the issue.

5960x
Rampage V
16gb corsair dominator platniums 2666mhz
R9 290x rog matrix platnium
1x Raidr
2x seagate 2tb mec drives
Corsair Ax860

Ok well basically my rig just shuts off. Not shuts down or bsod but instantly off asif someone cut the power. Sometimes it'll run for 3days others 3min. The leds one the mobo stay on. if i try to boot it stright away no go. If i cut the ac and wait for everything to drop off it boots as normal.

Personally I'm thinking its either a mobo or psu issue but i don't have spares to be able to test them with.

Is there a program that i can run that can tell me the cause of the crashing?

Or do you guys have any other suggestions?

Hey man,

I had a similar issue with an old PC of mine a few years back, it sounds like your issues are as random as mine were and I did eventually find out that one of the USB slots on my MOBO was dead and causing the PC to simply shut down. Maybe try playing around with where you plug stuff in...

Hope this helps,

Jasper

Im with barnsley on this one, sounds like memory, remove all and run 1 stick only, and check it boots, and remain stable for atleast 10 mins, then shutdown and swap stick, although they might just want re-seating, but it up to you which way you go about it, re-seat and if still crashes, then go for single stick at a time and see if you can narrow it down to 1 stick.

Also check the event manager if you get back into windows, and also any mini-dumps that are there in the hard drive - C:\Windows\Minidump

i had the same problem with my rampage v as well as another problem, i

RMA'd it as i couldnt get to find out what the problem was

Cheers dude.

I'm going to buy a stick of generic ddr4 just to use to confirm that it's either or. With the way its acting I'm pretty sure its the mobo. I've had ram issues on other rigs before and this isn't acting like the issues ive encountered previously.

I would personally just use the RAM you have so that you can the find out if it is one dodgy stick, and also remember that the X99 systems need matched 4 way RAM, so buying a single stick and using that with the others could in itself cause more of the same or different issues.

Just out of curiosity, did you buy a 4way matched pack of RAM or 2 matched pairs of it? This could potentially be whats causing your issue if you got 2 matched pairs.

Have you tried

Enable fast boot

Enable fast cold boot

Both of these options are found near the bottom of the dram timing options. What the above options do is allow you to restart your PC without getting some of the error codes associated with the memory.

Its this kit

No matter what stick, no matter what slot i get the same results.

I want to use the generic as a new piece in the equation. If i plug it in on its own and the system sits happy as larry i know that ive got a dodgey batch of ram but if the same issue keeps occouring it points at the mobo. Its a cheap way of being able to confirm things before i start RMA'ing anything if i send something off i want to be confident that its the source of the issue rather then sending something away and them turning around saying its all good and then I'm back at square one again.
