Random screen freezes with my new computer.

I just finished building my new computer yesterday. Got it up and running then installed Windows 7. When i was installing latest drivers for different components my screen froze. I waited over a minute without any changes. I rebooted my computer the same problem happened while checking for windows updates. At this point I thought my OS was corrupted and I formatted my drive and then re installed windows 7. Unfortunately the problem was still there.

At this point I had no idea what the problem could be. It reminded me of what my previous computer did to me when my GPU died. I updated my graphics driver every single driver on the computer including the motherboard BIOS and I also installed every single windows update and SP1.

Still the same problem. I started investigating the possibility of a bad GPU. I swapped my new GPU with my old one which was working perfectly fine in my previous system under the same OS, got the latest driver up and running however the problem was still there.

I placed my new GPU back in the computer and started a Prime95 blend test. Came back an hour later with no error (I'm aware 1hour worth of Prime95 blend is no where near enough to determine if a computer is stable or not). Therefor I downloaded IntelBurn Test and ran it for 10 passes total with maximum stress settings and it came out clean with no error at all. I also downloaded MemTest86+ and ran the test for two passes (I'm also aware you need a good 10 passes to catch any errors). That test also came out clean. I plan on doing some more extensive IBT/MT86+ tonight while I'm sleeping. Also my tempereture never went above 68C on any core during any stress test.

Little more overview of the problem: Closing Google chrome caused a screen freeze on several occasion, checking for updates for windows also cause the problem on several occasion, getting on the final loading screen (basically before you enter the game) on WoW caused the problem on several occasion.

On the other hand I've played a couple SC2 match and ran into no error so far. Running 3DMARK 11 on any preset causes no screen freeze either.

At some point after performing some final drivers and windows update I manage to use my computer without any issues for 1-2 hours. I thought I resolved the problem then proceeded to overclock my cpu. Problem came back, switched back to default profile but with no changes.

DxDiag: http://pastebin.com/7GDZfyx1

System Configuration

CPU: i7-2600k @ 4.4ghz (1.292vcore)

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

Ram: Mushkin blackline 8gb 1600mhz 9-9-9-24

Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth P67

GPU: Gigabyte 6970 2gb OC WindForce (Core @900Mhz Memory @ 1375Mhz) factory overclock.

SSD (Main): Ocz Vertex 3 120gb MAX IOPS edition.

HDD (Storage): 500gb seagate

PSU: Corsair AX750

Case: CM HAF 932 Advanced.

Help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Edit: wanted to add more information. I had the problem happen while playing music and the music stopped followed by a weird noise coming out of my speakers.

iv'e got the same problem on a 775 pc,the screen freezes, and if you have music or any sound on background you will hear that noise repeating,no mouse feedback, keyboard or any type of hardware,it might be the ram,or a hdd,try with another ram modules.

I've tried with one stick, with the other, with he second ram channel. always the same issue over and over again. 3 hours + of memtest86+ revealed no errors at all.

The problem has been isolated to exiting google chrome, trying to enter WoW and checking for Windows updates.

I'm running out of options here =(

Had a similar problem, and nailed it down to frontpanel audio-cable.Never plugged it in again, and havent had that problem since.

Check the temperatures of your GPU.

Mine were stupidly high when playing a game and often was the cause of the problem.

This seems to be a problem that is not just down to one piece of hardware as many many people on the internet have this problem.

My crashes (as described ndragos87) normally occur when playing a game that was publsihed by EA such as The Sims 3 and Fifa.

Weird right?

Weird right?

I just ran 10minutes worth of FurMark without any issues. (temos below 65C at all time.

I am having a similar problem with my machine. The system just randomly freezes, if I have music on or a skype call running they will both continue just the fine (music keeps playing, conversation is still going on). However I can't click on anything, I can't even str+alt+del out. After somewhere between 30sec-4min my system will start responding again and I can continue doing without any problems, which is really weird. Oh, this never happened while gaming or extensively using my CPU (folding i.e.).

Any help, will be greatly appreciated.
