Random popping from speakers

Hi guys,

I've had this set of Logitech X-530 for quite a long time, and they always pop randomly, i ignored it for a couple of years, but i still have them and yeah its getting quite annoying now.

I have a Z5500 system running on my TV/PS3 in the same room, and its fine, but for the money i spent on it, so it should be.

I'm ruling out computer issues as this X-530 has been used constantly on my last PC and was popping all the time still...

Should i just get rid of them and get something else or is there something else i should be doing??

Don't want to use the Z5500 on the PC as i have no reason to, most time i need to use the power that the Z5500 has, its usually on the PS3 as a media player.

I'm not sure what this one is using, its got the Creative X-FI onboard the mobo.

But im pretty sure the other PC had realtek drivers

Go to your windows Sound settings. Click the speaker devise they are plugged into, click properties, click the advanced tab, and tell me what the "hz" is set at.

Which speaker is the popping coming from?

is it a loud sudden pop that sounds louder than what the speakers are set too?

Does it only do it when any kind of sound is playing?

Sorry i am asking so many questions, but this will narrow it down for me if its an auxiliary from the speakers, speakers themselves or a windows thing that conveniently has this issue on both your computers.

my left front and left rear speaker are both sitting fairly close to a each other, about 20cms away, but i'm pretty sure its coming from the front left speaker.

Yes the pop does sound louder than the speakers are set, i find myself lowering the speaker volume after it happens thinking that i had the speakers sitting up on a high volume.

To be honest i don't ever remember hearing the pop while i am playing games or listening to music. Not sure if it has happened and i dont notice it, or the fact that i always notice it when there isn't any sound coming out of them.

I had windows XP sp3 on my last pc, this comp is running Windows 7 64bit

Have you downloaded the latest drivers for the Creative card? If so, are there any Creative Driver settings that are different than what you have in windows sound settings? I am not too familuare whether or not Creative has there own control panel. If they do make sure they are set the same as the windows set. This does not sound like speaker problem, and an easy way to test this is to swap your left and right speaker, and if the left set is still making noises, it's your inputs. meaning they could be defective hardware or bad drivers. But after you do swap and the popping starts to come from the right, we can 100% confirm that they are speaker issues.

I had a set of those once and they did the same thing lol drove me nuts I returned them. But they sound good otherwise. and I only heard it when they were what Id call idle not while gaming or listin to music

I swapped the inputs around and the same speakers are making the sound. I think when i'm ready i will just buy a new set. Might as well replace them anyway.

I found my logitecs do the same when ceiling lights in any room of the house are switched on, so I thick it is electrical interference with the built in amplifier.

does the popping also appear when you use a headphone at the same connector (front R/L) on your soundcar/motherboard?

if yes:

are you using a shielded network cable (STP, S/FTP, PIMF...)? try with an unshielded (UTP) one and the popping may disappear. the alternative would be - as i do it - to use an optical (toslink) cable in order to avoid this problem. but since the logitech gear in question does not have a toslink connector......

the popping and crackling appears on any of my pc's using a shielded network cable (so: all of them). the pc's i have connected to my onkyo receiver with copper, they crackle and pop...one more, the other less. toslink: no problem.

Too late for that now, i have just hooked up my new speakers, i bought a Z506 system, the speakers themselves are pretty good, not sure i like the size of the sub though compared to my X-530, but with the Creative X-Fi soundcard onboard and the creative software, its tuned to sound really really good. Its got nothing on my Z5500 however
