Rampage IV Extreme & 3930k ram advice

Just check that the Mobo will take the CPU, it may need a BIOS update before it recognises the CPU. It should still work but you'll need to update the BIOS. I have the same board, and have updated the BIOS a few months ago (which went very smoothly through windows using the AI Suite), I havent updated to the latest BIOS yet, but will get round to it.

Does the RAM 'have' to be on the memory QVL of the mobo? Because it's not and now i'm worried as I've ordered it :-(

No. As long as it fits in the capabilities of the mobo it should be fine and if its dominator its not on the list but tom uses the highest spec domi so you dont have o worry

Thanks for the reply .

I am getting 2 packs to take my rig to 32GB. I've just been googling and found this thread in Toms Hardware - it looks like my rig is only gonna see 24GB - oh crap :-(

It's quite a recent thread too :-(

What do you think?

Thats just some dude experiencing bad dimm slots. The r4e can have 8gb sticks in each slot so the r4e has the capability for 64gb so dont worry. I intend to get a second set of that ram for my system as soon as i get the funds so youre good bro buy it and bench it lol

It doesn't nope. The motherboard manufacturers can't try all the memory obviously so they just put a few on the list but generally if it matches the boards specifications for memory (e.g. DDR3 1066MHz to 2133MHz and under 1.65v) it will work. You may need to tweak a few settings to get the memory operating at full speed in some cases, but this is simple to do and only takes a few seconds. With these Corsairs you've purchased they will have whats known as XMP profiles and all you do is go in to the BIOS select the XMP profile that the memory gives to the motherboard and all the settings for the memory will be loaded automatically.

Nice and simple really. I love my Rampage IV Extreme I'm sure you'll love yours too!

btw I have 8 sticks used in my RIVE and it works absolutely fine.

Thanks Guys - really appreciate the advice!

What size are the chips on the Dominators (in reference to ASUS's statement - 'This motherboard does not support DIMMs made up of 512Mb (64MB) chips or less (Memory chip capacity counts in Megabit, 8 Megabit/Mb = 1 Megabyte/MB).' Whats that all about?

Basically it means this motherboard won't take 1GB or lower sticks of memory. You must use a 2GB, 4GB or 8GB stick.

Each stick has 16 memory chips. 16 x 64MB = 1GB, 16 x 128MB = 2GB. The Corsair you have chosen is using 256MB chips.

ASUS Rampage 4 extreme + i7 3930K

Im planning to buy rampage 4 and 3930K too, and i really need some professional help, REALLY NEED ;)

My main goal of this rig to make fast renders with 3D max and V-Ray, i also work with many Adobe software.

I definitely will be overcloking CPU as hard as i can (i know about overcloking just that it makes PCU run faster and make it hotter :D :D :D)

Im planning to add water cooling little bit later (I don't have enough money for it right now)

I'm planing to use vcard 2 GB like GF680 or something simillar. MAYBE, just MAYBE i will add second video card later (dont know if it will give more performents for 3D renders and 3D viewport). Defenetly no more than 2 video cards.

Ram, I want to have 64GB (much as possible).

Can someone who is smarter than me in PC rigs can say if rampage 4 is not overkill for what im planning to do? If so than what MOBO u recommend for me? What rams do i buy to get maximum performance if my MOBO is rampage 4? I don't have time to search my self, i need this rig fast, im planning to open my own small business so i really apreashiate professional advice..
Also would be great that u recommend PSU.

Case i will make my self (at least I can do one thing good :) )

P. S. im not a gamer, i almost do not play any games, and if i play- that game is old like CnC3 or Half life2

Thanx for help :)

With all due respect, you came here telling us to spoon feed you answers which you couldn't be bothered to research yourself. You then proceeded to insult the administrator of the site after he informed you that this is no place for people as lazy as you.

Edit your message again and you will be banned.

This is your fault, this is your problem. You are the childish one, and you're throwing a strop.
You want to leave? - we're not going to stop you.
