Ram questions

Right then, i'm running 2x512 Corsair XMS4000Pro....the timings on them are 3-4-4-7 at the moment. Obviously these boys are rated to run at up to DDR500, but if i'm running them at DDR400 speeds does that mean i'm likely to be able to tighten these timings up a bit? For some reason i've been under the impression that theres a trade off between speed and latency and I was just wondering if that's correct?

This leads me to my second question...

I'm planning on hitting the A64 scene pretty soon and am looking at either an Abit AV8 or an ASUS A8V. I'd like to do some overclocking which leads me to believe that I should go for the Abit rather than the Asus as i've heard the locks on that board are pretty hit & miss. Will my ram be ok for either of these boards?

Cheers,

Dunno about your amd q's,but you should definately be able to tighten them timings if running at 400.I'd start at 2.5-3-3-6,then try lowering em 1 at a time and test for stability with memtest(oz memtest can change timings on the fly)and memtest wont hose your o/s.Tighter timings may require a bump in volts.

if you are running at ddr400 speeds the ram should do at least 2.5-3-3-6 or tighter as for the a64 board i would recommend the Msi Neo2 Plat board for overclocking.
