raid o SSD with HD backup

Looking for some help if possible

I currently just got 2 x 240 GB ssd;s and placed them in raid 0 and will use the HD 4TB for storage. This is essentially what i want to try and do

Installed new windows 8.1 on the SSD's and and boots fine under RAID option in BIOS however it wont boot at all if the HD is connected

Any advise on this aspect would be appreciated.

trying to achieve high redundancy on OS

Plug the HDD into the secondary Sata ports (i.e the ones that dont use the RAID chip)
