Well it pretty much does mate! Higher vcore on the gpu = higher OC lol.

The resistance is adjustable so you pick how much extra voltage to push through based on the size of your kahunahs

No it doesn't... You still have to overclock it yourself.

Let me word it differently. The exact voltmod shown in that thread and those pictures using the same resistors... What are the effects? Any results on the gains?

I know what they do as I did it to an old old old 5900. Blew it up in the end for kicks as it was pretty much worthless.

4870's are £180+ atm be cool if there were some 4850 voltmods

I was just looking at reviews etc and i'm not sure the 4850 voltmods would be wise with the default stock cooler

LOL - look man, I was being a bit pedantic but it was a 'special' question

Let me answer differently... The exact effect of the volt mods shown are either: additional voltage to the gpu core if it is the vgpu mod you are referring to, or additional voltage to the memory if you are referring to the vmem mod.

How much voltage depends on the resistance you set, the resistors are adjustable.

Additional voltage facilitates higher overclocks, which you correctly pointed out are still applied manually via software.

Due to the voltage being variable the resulting additional overclock differs, obviously cooling plays a part. Suffice to say you always get a higher OC, therefore better performance (higher fps/benchmark scores).

Lets not forget the bios update that you need to unlock those extreme overclocks on the 4870. Can be found on Techreport as well.
