Radeon 6990 Launch Date

Right I cant do ANYTHING publically till the 8th so no pics or videos

Well that sucks some of the other sites then are most certainly breaking NDA then in regards to pictures I've even read some "vague" performance figures. Have fun with the card Tom lucky git

ok. people will pre-order that i think it's gona be hottest card today, it's got AMD's 1st gen dedicated real-time tesselation engineering i think so better to wait for custom designs maby and see how the 6990 performes eh?

To everyone talking about the fan just go and look at the XFX 5970 which also has a center mounted fan and managed to keep the 5970 rather cool. I am however very interested to see how this card performs and the price as AMD are now behind Nvidia in terms of performance (just) I'm wondering whether they will bring it in at a cheaper price than the 5970 was when it came out to gain more customers. Anyhow not long to wait and then we can see what Nvidia bring to counter it

I know they run cool, i watch loads of vids for it. The 6900 chips have dedicated tesselation engineering and the 5970 don't have that. these high-performance real-time tesselation chips produce alot of heat. 6900 produce alot of heat and 6970 is hotter and the fan is louder compared to Nvidia's GTX580. just imagining

Your right but it's important to remember Nvidia received a thorough caning over the 480's heat output and therefore arguably put a lot more emphasis on cooling than they would normally with the 500 series. Tom pointed out in one of his videos how AMD might be reaching thermal issues with the 6900 series which is why a vapor chamber was employed. At the end of the day i think your right it will run a little hot. I was just saying don't knock the center mounted fan till we see how it performs.

ok. Nvidia too have the vapour cooler. I have thoughts about the 470/80 being used for greedy marketing with negative influence because the flaws in 400's fan settings, they're noisy, doesn't have a vapour cooler etc and it was the best technology and many wanted that. I make my 480's run faster, cooler and quieter with fairly big overclocks no problem, they're great. Nvidia the masters of micro-processors could have done that, make the fans work properly for gaming and benchmark scenarios. I think AMD are at it too. The negative influence encourages people to buy again, cooler Fermi meaning more money for Nvidia and 480's released when 1 game used good DX11 features, Metro 2033 and many would hang on to the 5870. 500's are at prime time and performance to watt is better though performance to price is different, it's expensive in comparison to 400's. Mega money and AMD build quality is lower grade i think and heat is the killer

be careful. i made some threads about 400's etc, check it

It's the same reference one with a Gigabyte sticker on isn't it?

EDIT: Also just noticed the sexy orange Gigabyte OC mobo
smile.gif

I also noticed the POS cpu cooler on top (tt frio). The pipes look awesome. Also Tom could you just hint whether they run cool or not. Just say "getting hot" for cold and "chilly" for hot.

HEXUS page shows it has 3840 stream processors. The 6970 has 1536 and 2 of them is less than 3840. look: i'm smiling with surprise

Let's just say it's gone through a few changes since that leaked/made-up slide came out.

I know it will handle in excess of 455W ! (doesn't need it, but it can take it

)

Overclockers have around a week to break records with it, before they 'may' need to do it all over again

found some info about the card.

The card features TWO AMD Cayman GPUs (those used in the HD 6950 and HD 6970).

It will therefore sport 3072 stream processors.

It will utilise a dual 256-bit memory interface with 2GB of GDDR5 VRAM per core (4GB total).

The TDP will be around 300W

Holy S@~+ it is a beast.

I have a feeling the 590 will be even better though

nice AMD

if it's 2 6950's don't flash the BIOS to the 6970 people, some custom BIOS designed by jungle tribal mathmaticians
smile.gif

Someone's not going to be happy with donanimhaber (whoever they are), them slides aren't made up >.<

I do hope they make good use of that bios switch, we've never had a chance to see it or exploit it positively for that matter, but I would personally get the likes of MSI onboard and get them to run with bios editions. Them guys (*cough* ex-Abit maybe *cough*) know a thing or two about jiggery-pokery.

Judging by the switch tho, it's wholely likely that you do have a 6950/6970 situation in effect - I'd admire the person with the balls to purchase this card themselves, with their hard-earned, and run it 24/7 on a 6970 bios. (did I say admire? slip of the tongue)

Performance slightly less than 2x6950 xfire ? We'll see....

Anyone had good experiences with the AMD Overdrive ? Never used it myself.
