Anyone out there still have an r9 295x2? I'm currently using one + an fx 8350 and I thought about upgrading my motherboard and also getting the new ryzen cpu. Wondering how much better the card would perform since I know that card did perform much better on systems with intel extreme cpus.

Someone wanna humor me and see what fps you get in games like blackdesert?

Doubt many people have it here, but yes you will for sure get a pretty decent boost in everything. I would say to any person running any AMD processor that isn't Ryzen, it is worth the upgrade investment. DDR4 will also help a bit with performance. Overall I see no reason to not upgrade if you have the money/or want to:)
The only next step is to ask you if you need/want 8 core's or would rather wait for a cheaper 6 core CPU.

In a perfect world i'd want something that's a little future proof. My first good pc was intel/nvidia qx96650 (or something, the core 2 duo extreme of that time) with a gtx 480 which at the time was a top tier card at 600$ and had a lifetime warranty which i did cash in on when it finally died. I used that pc for quite sometime. When it came time to upgrade the prices of intel and nvidia had shot up from 800 - 1000 for top tier cards so i joined team red for the fx 8350 and r9 295x2.

I was hoping the 5960x would drop in price but the newest generation isn't the usual 1000$ and instead appears to be 1600. (wtf intel lol)

But now that I see ryzen is here I may give amd another shot.

A 6 core or 8 core Ryzen CPU would be pretty future proofed, slightly more so than an intel 4 core. At worst, it would probably be the same.

Depends on programs, games etc doesn't it?... Like for me it's not at all. My 7700K is more than enough for me, since I mostly just browse the net, stream movies, watch Youtube and write some documents. And even for gaming, the 7700K is mostly in the lead when it comes to gaming :)

Read the context of his question and my response again. He's talking about what will last him longer. More cores will last him longer as everything should be heading towards multi-threading. Even if it didn't for gaming it is not that far behind right now. And that's without optimizations(in games)

Modern graphics cards and CPU's are quite ahead of the 295X2 and FX 8350 now. If you are willing to wait two-three months, a Ryzen R7 1700 and a Vega graphics card should last for many, many years. And of course, if AMD released an even better iteration of Zen two years from now your AM4 motherboard will still fit the CPU. This is what AMD have promised. If you bought X99 then you would have to fork out an extra €200 just for the privilege of buying the newest CPU. If you don't want to wait for Vega, a R7 1700 and a GTX 1080 or 1080Ti will be excellent as well, but Vega will probably last longer than the GTX 1080.
