R680 due January 2008?

Still 16 ROP's and 320 stream processors? (a la 2900XT)

GTX/GTS have 24rops, 128 stream proccy/20 rops, 96 stream proccys respectivly.

They (AMD) need to balance this as the 2900 suffered greatly whilst anti-aliasing (rops help AA).

This huge memory bus did nothing for the 2900, why is it going to help now?

All this ram, why? There is no difference between the 320/640 gts anymore after driver optimisation (yes, even at high res 1/2fps diff), surely the same applies here.

I'm not a fanboy, my allegiance lies with performance...

I have a feeling that many games, engines and so on, still bank on the gfxcards having 256m in the main. With probably few exceptions.

Going with programming trends, they`d stick with the 256 theory and not clamp on the possibility that some1 has 512+, so if u have 512m - 256m of it would do the work. Ridged structures. Some of the balance 256 may be used, but not in a critical way.

If they perhaps opened themselves to minimum settings and anything above is to be taken advantage of, performance increases would probably be bigger.

This maybe wishful thinking in a similar way "programmers" look at cores. From the OS downwards/upwards, they frequently rely on a number of cores/processors instead of checking what`s available at the start and using everything a machine has.
