Rumours have been rife over the internet that ATi have equipped their next-gen R520 with 32pipelines.
Now this is great, but not so great if ATi actually have to use them all!!
Nvidia have 24 fully running pipes on their card and so ATi will see if their r520 can match/beat nvidia's G70 on performance with 24pipelines, before they decide whether to enable the other 8.
If they do have to enable all 32, then they face problems:
Now you're all saying: "what do we care?"
Answer: We care as this will mean the cards with blistering performance will cost signicantly more than the ones with disabled pipelines.
Well this is only rumours I've seen around, so I don't know for sure...perhaps best to wait for the benches to come out. BUT nvidia vs ati never-ending war seems set to be tight and ferocious!
