Hey All

I have a question for you all.

I have just reformatted but created a partition to back everything up onto.

So now I have my C partition with windows installed on and my D partition with all my music and pictures on etc.

Now my question is, if I installed games such as battlefield 2 on my D partition but then reformatted windows (C Partition) but my battlefield 2 would still be on the D partition. Would battlefield 2 need to be installed as my C partition with windows on was formatted. I am just using battlefield 2 as an example but will install my games on the D partition if it means when I do a reformat I dont have to reinstall all my games.

Thanks, Sam

in my experience sometimes they work somtimes not, Steam works for me if i reformat my OS, h/e COD2 i have to reinstall(freakin 5 disks).

If your a real boffin you could save all the registry entries away into teh game folder on the backup device, then just reinstate them in the fresh windows install.

I meant to say Hyper, if u`r using 1 hard drive to partition a C: & D:, and install games on D: - it will hold down your drive performance during gameplay.

Each time windo$e wants to do something (and it always does) whilst your playing your game, it`ll move the drive heads to the C: partition. So as u play your game, the drive performance is being hampered by switching heads from the C: to D: section of the drive. Particularly annoying if u use a pagefile, but can be annoying anywayz.

Can result in unnecessary lag in online games (loading of gfx/map files whilst windo$e is active), even on the best of pcs.

Always best to have your OS installed on one drive, and games on another, similarly if you do alot of video editing stuff (where u have to leave your pc for hours rendering mpgs etc).

Thanks for that mate.

I have ended up just using the D partition for strorage and installing everything on the C partition.
