Question regarding dual monitors

Hiya folks,

Quick question regarding the above. I'm just at work now and was wondering if anyone knew of any software that would allow the use of dual screens with a splitter off one stardard VGA onboard graphics port.

I know if we just used the splitter it would clone the image, but we want to use it as an extended desktop.

Failing that we'll just buy those cheap quadro's for the job, but we're looking for a muchos cheapo way.

Ta muchly.

2 pound something I believe.

There are words about ghosting and so forth. Ghosting usually appears when u use a really long vga connection, with a poor quality cable. Longer the distance, the thicker the cable - generally. Standard dos screens are always ok, higher resolutions require more conductivity.

Sounds like it works.

Thats only going to clone tho I believe. I think what you want is somethign like this:

Doubt it'll be cheap tho.

As long as you stick with dual monitor and not more, almost any graphics card will work. I have had 2x22" on my €30 HD3450. So if you are allowed to install drivers and a card, I'd say go for that.

I believe ATi's surroundview enables you to have 3+ screens with multiple cards, but I've never used it.

I doubt a splitter will work, as the computer is still giving only one image to the VGA slot. However, there is a thing such as dual-DVI so you might want to look into that.

Yeah, looks like that one will just clone sadly... Cheers though mate.

That's more like it but will have to check out the prices. Like ya say, it might cost a lil bit. That said, they can't go charging much more than another card itself can they.

From what I've seen the dual one costs about £100 and the triple £250, so I don't think that Matrox share our mentality. :(

Might want to take a look into items like this. I know eBay isn't exactly a preferred way of buying but the card is interesting. I looks like it can give four different images to the screens, as I see four heatsinked components.

Funnily enough, the OC3D server has one of those in it :p

Yeah, just been looking at prices... Bit much. That said the other method we were looking at was around £85 and would require more work.

Not being funny or anything but could we not just buy a dual headed low profile normal graphics card?

Can't look at Ebay on here so can't see it. Any other links to proper product page?

Yes, I already said something about a regular card :p As said my HD3450 did the job just fine, and I think it's also available in low profile.

Specification page of the Matrox G200. Specs seem to contradict with what's on eBay though, the seller claims it's capable of external resolutions up to 1900x1200.
