Qimonda wins AMD as partner for launch of new graphics standard GDDR5

AMD could sport these on their newest incarnation. It could also launch a purchasing preference of the enthusiast if their DDR5 either does/doesn`t perform as well as perhaps stocks AMD already have.

Off the back of their previous cards, I think their newest will be pretty darn good.

Saw a silly date of June18th for an nVidia card (DDR3), that mentioned 2-days after AMD.. so it may not be long to w8 b4 the 2 stock the shelves with their goodness.

June/July, exciting stuff.

I hope this helps them finally come out on top again. Ive always prefered the IQ from the ATI graphics cards but they went downhill as soon as AMD bought their ass.

Haven't they used gddr4 before, with little gain in results?

Has gddr4 just been swept under the rug? I don't think Nvidia have ever bothered with it anyway.

EDIT: Google and Wiki save the day :) GDDR4

Nvidia havent botherd with it becasue obviously it dosent show any real performance increase. Least thats what i think.

I`m guessing that if DDR3 is more than capable of loading the required info for the gpu, with room to spare (i.e. it`s not holding anything back), ur going to keep using it until the price changes and it becomes uneconomical.

If DDR/DDR2 was good enough, there would be other factors other than performance that would stop the gfx companies using it.

Yea i think it just might be a marketing scheme. I think Rast is right. Im pretty sure DDR3 is still fast enough for the cards just ATI is trying to make their cards more flashy by having a higher # on the cards ram. Ive seen this work before.
