Q6600 Clocks itself DOWN whilst under load?

I've got a Q6600, it's overclocked, at 3.32GHz (415FSB x 8). However, whilst stress testing (with Prime95), after a minute or so, the CPU will clock itself DOWN? According to CPU-Z, the multiplier decreases from x8 to x6.. I can't understand why this would be.

I could understand if the CPU were clocking itself down whilst inactive and if SpeedStep were enabled (it isn't), but clocking itself down whilst under 100% load? Weird. I really can't understand it.

First thing I thought is that it might be a protection mechanism to protect the CPU from overheating, but temps are fine. The system is watercooled with a PA120.3 rad and D-TEK FuZion CPU Block (with quad core accelerator nozzle), so temps don't even exceed 50C when under full load.

Also, I have a Corsair HX620W Power Supply, so I don't think the issue is power related.

Any help? :)

Ignoring the thermal management and its subheadings, Make sure all the settings are disabled.

Yes your bios wont be identical. They will be there somewhere, even if there under a different name.

I found the setting. It was called "CPU TM Function" and the issue seems to be fixed. :D I'm still curious though.. Why was the speed being throttled when the temps are fine?
