Putting trust in my OC3D Family

Hi Guys

I am very close to purchasing a Gigabyte UD3R(v2) with an I7 950 and some mushkin blackline RAM. I have just read that there is a problem with the board when running an SSD and 2 or more mechanical HDDs in RAID 0. Is there any truth in this or complete BS.

Hey Tom when you did your testing of the board did you try the above config or just run a single drive.

The other board I have on my shortlist is the ASUS Sabertooth X58.

Well I'm not sure, but if you're really worried, why not just go for the Saber? It's just as good a board

No problems with SSD's and RAID arrays on that, or any, Gigabyte board.

You will be fine, the user with issues you mention surely must have had some other issue or was not sure how to configure things is all.

Youll get problems with any mobo running some drives in raid and some drives not in raid. THATS why I said in my Raid guide to keep raid and normal drives on seperate controllers.

Normally different controllers are different colour sata ports

If you don't have the option of running them on seperate controllers make sure to set the ones you don't want to be in a normal RAID to JBOD (Just a bunch of disks).

Why do you say that Tom? I run RAID all the time with non-member disks, as do tons of users I know, no problems at all.

All you have to do is pick the ones you want to be a part of the RAID array, the rest will be as normal AHCI disks in Non-member mode.

Running like that now, and always have for years, on the Intel controller.

Is it because the TRIM commands won't get to the SSD if it is running on the controller that has RAID0 disks setup on it?

No, on Intel ICH10 at least, TRIM commands will still be passed to SSDs who aren't a member of an array.
