hey, my Computer has been making some wierd sounds, like it's sparking some sorta clicking sound every time i boot my computer up and when vista has loaded it stops. Pc is been real slow aswell as my graphics card big time, could this be my PSU?

HELP!

CLicking?

Could be your hard drive causing the clicking and slowdown.

Can you see sparks? Turn all the lights off and see

no i dont see sparking and yeah it's some sorta clicking sound.. Like paper was being put in a fan as it spins (But it's not, i checked the fans)

Use the old toilet-roll tube trick.

Take the side off ur pc and listen to it through the tube, u should be able to sense where it's coming from if it's not obvious.

PSU fans do sometimes click when they're reaching top speed. Can be cos they're off-center, warped or dirty.

haha i have this problem as well...its definitely build up of static cos my pc randomly turns off esp if i touch it; the psu or something not being earthed properly?

Atm i have attached an antistatic wrist band onto the comp to solve the problem...

Oh dear - mate you should check all your cables etc.

perhaps something is shorting it out via touching the case such as motherboard - screw - case?

Yh i took it apart and back together again to make sure there wasnt any metal contact..replaced all cables...its most prob the psu itself; dnt have another 1 to test or money to get a new 1 so i'll stick with the antistatic band for now :)

@toxic, u got another psu you could try ?

Toxic, I'd check the GPU fan maybe, that's the kind of thing that's slowing down only once the drivers are loaded. Or, since it's starting when you turn the computer on, try to disconnect your components one by one until the noise disappears, if it ever happens.

Static shouldn't build up on the case, that means it's not grounded. The whole chassis is supposed to be connected to the ground prong (through the PSU chassis). Either your house isn't properly grounded, or your PSU or IEC cable have something wrong with them.

Yh i already knew tht, its just tht i cant do anything about it for the moment... i doubt its my house tbh

Sorry for the late replys, it might be my PSU itself... not just the fan because my hole computer is so slow. ill try a new PSU tomorrow.

Mate did the different PSU stop the problem?

If it did then i should change mine as well to see if thts the prob so need to know before spending any money..

thnks

I had a Silverstone PSU do this every time the power switch was turned off for longer than an hour or so. It's not a nice sound at all.
