PSU noise - Cooler master Silent pro gold1000w

Hi,

Just bought a new rig that I wanted to be completely soundless, unfortunately, this is not the case...

I had an old Corsair TX650 v2 that I wanted to use in my new rig , but when it died I went out and bought the Silent pro after reading several reveiws telling me it was the best choise for a "quiet" computer.

But it seems like the fan is constantly spinning at high speed creating a very noticable sound.

Anyone have any suggestions to why it is acting this way?

I have made sure it is the PSU that is making the sound by stopping all the other fans and pulling out the gfx card etc.

Also tried flashing the bios, but it did not resolve the problem.

My suspicion is that the MB is dead, because the PSU fan is also acting strange at boot. Every time I boot the CPU fan kinda jerks two times before it boosts into full speed and then it calms down.

about two jerks on boot thats normal.

and tried in diffrent pc? maybe go round friends and try there, my guess its the mobo but you cant be certain, why didnt you get a hybrid psu? they are best for silent builds unless you actually use the psu in high load then the fan wont even turn on.

im no good with psu issues, but good luck

Thanks for your reply.

good to know that the two jerks on boot is normal, but is it supposed to spinn up to full speed as well? Sounds like when someone puts the pedal to the metal in a car.

I have no experience with hybrids and the Silent pro was on sale ^^

But I'll try to find another test pc. Was also considering the 'paperclip'-trick, just to see if its the same soundlvl when its not connected to the mobo. Never tried it before , is it safe?

Could there be some BIOS settings that could affect the psu and make it noisier?

yeah full speed is normal aswell, its basically post(Power on self test)

if you want a really silent pc without wc the psu then the hybrids are the way to go

paper clip = some brands like corsair even recomend you do it to check the psu first, some brands even sell the required accesories but a standard old paper clip will do the trick, although i doubt it will help

also if you think its bios then do a master reset and see if that helps also disable all of the eco cooling, cool n quiet and ll of that bs most of the time it doesnt even make a diffrence
