psn vs xbox live

I'm thinking of getting a PS3 but I've been told that PSN isn't as good as xboxlive :( also that PSN is laggy and download speed for updates etc is slower.

I'm not sure if this is true, but I think online play is really the deciding factor in buying a PS3 or xbox360.

What do you all think? is PSN as good?

are xboxlive people trying to justify their annual fee?
 
PSN has got much better recently, especially with the new Home. The PSN isn't bad at all, no lag for me at all, the XBL has no lag issues either :p.

PS3 is the newer console, has better games in my opinion, it all depends on what you prefer.

The PS3 is much better console, that's my opinion and there is nothing wrong with the networking on PS3. The Xbox fan boys really diss PS3 :P.
 
personally, i prefer the ps3 as a console, the online is easier to use

the 360, you pay for what is essencially the same as you get with the ps3 for free

admitadly, more people i know have xbox live than have psn

but i dont really mind, playing randomers can still be fun :)
 
I havent used xbox live but PSN has upgraded leaps and bounds the past few months.

I'd happily recommend it...its free and the games iv played online generally depends on who is hosting (as with like all online games?)

Game downloads could be quicker, but u can do it in the background
 
I had a look at some comparison screenshots and both the 360 and ps3 are very similar graphically. I thought the ps3 would be better. ps3 does have bluray, but ultimately I went for the 360 just because my RL friends have 360's and I can play online with them.

The NXE is nice, and I like it so far. Can't comment about psn because I have never used it.
 
i'd say go for ps3 personally i have both, and enjoy both but i still resent having to pay to get all the features of xboxlive, including the rights to download 'free' content which you need a gold subscription for sometimes.. i really don't like that.

i also like that the store system is cash not a stupid and overly priced points system..

with the addition of playstation home, deffinately get the ps3 tbh.
 
Dont like PSN at the moment, but havent played with home yet so my mind could be changed pretty easily. I think xbox live has far more content and far more users to play against.

So i'd go for the xbox.
 
I find the PSN interface far too complicated compared to Xbox Live, although it could just be a case of getting used to it.

Much prefer Xbox Live though and all my mates have it so that was the deciding factor.
 
I prefer the PS3 as a superior console. Sure PSN isn't quite as good for online gaming...but it free, unlike Xbox live that just looks like a rip-off nowadays to me.

Also, PSN Home is frigging awesome
 
PS3 can be more difficult to get online whereas 360 is plug and play.

PS3 is free online, 360 starts from £5 a month.

PS3 plays bluray.

360 you get a headset, not sure you do with PS3.

PS3 can do wireless out the box, 360 needs an upgrade.

Both ,now, do HDMI and optical out.

As suggested above i would go with whichever your mates have really.

I've got both but I much prefer my PS3 all round, though I don't do scores of online gaming, it seems to work absolutely fine for me.
 
I'm probably going to get a PS3 tomorrow :)

Found it with LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 & Prince of Persia for just under £300.

I know a few people on PSN so should be good.

After looking at the specs and watching videos of some of the games, the PS3 atm seems to be the one to get.

I will post up my PSN name if I get one tomorrow :D
 
I've just plugged in my new PS3 :)

had to go down maplins to get a phono coupler for my sound :(

now it's just downloading the latest update and hopefully I will then be online.

I got LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 & Prince of Persia :D
 
my PS3 seems to be faulty :(

when I power it on the screen flickers with grey noise (like an old tv thats not tuned in) :( it's connected via HDMI on 1080p and I know the lead is ok and it only seems to do it on a cold boot :(

I might take it back and get a xbox360 :o not sure atm, I'm just surprised at the lack of content on the psn store and also no-one seems to ever be online.

I was hoping to get SF2T HD on the PS3 but it's not even on the EU store :mad:
