Proposed "Gaming Rig".

Hi I am in Queensland, Australia so I get horrible local costs. I am building a rig that I have worked out most things for, but I still have a couple of questions. This is my first thread here on overclock3d other than an intro new person thread. I am on overclock.net as well I came here after watching some timetolivecustoms, videos. I have built computers before but never done watercooling, it looks so cool and the idea of have a quiet computer sounds enticing.

The questions I have are.
1. Are all the parts compatible?

2. I am thinking of getting some quick disconnects are they worth it/ are they useful?

3. Do you know any good reservoirs that don't take up ODD bays? Because With a disc tray, fan controller and 360mm radiator I can't have a dual bay reservoir. Or would it be better to get a 240/280mm radiator? I was looking at these but I would also have to get a separate pump.

CM storm Trooper everything else seems ok just don't buy the OCZ ssd get a Sandisk or Kingston Hyper x or similar the OCZ's tend to fold also where are you ordering from? Also as a gaming rig you don't really need a 3930K get an Ivy Bridge cpu instead unless you plan on doing rendering its overkill.

What do you mean they tend to fold? I am ordering from a few different websites, the spaces between the parts groups represents a different website

So yeh a few websites, I tried to get good deals through static ice but pccasegear is one of the few that I could find that has watercooling parts.

welcome to OC3D...

1a. yes they are compatible
2a. not unless you plan on changing or breaking down the loop often.
3a. not the one you shortcutted to.. using billet ally (metal mixing is not good)
there are many to choose from
4a. hadn't
5a. make decisions on important questions...

id scream about pricing as well. but in this community, to get correct answers,
you have to let us know what the plans are for this build. from the listing id say you
are doing alot of video rendering, photoshop graphic and/or database work.
if gaming is the biggest portion, then your build is wrong.
there are CPU intensive games, but the sandy/ivey bridge (1155) processors can
handle all of that task. 8GB RAM is sufficeint, so stepping the X79 platform
down
will save monster dollars. is this a theme build or strictly for water-cooling?
since this is your first WC build, make it easy on your self and start on CPU loop
and upgrade accordingly. we can spent your cash quickly with suggestions and be
way off base.

What do you mean they tend to fold?

many here have had the OCZ units (due to pricing) and they tend to leave you in
a situation that many do not like to be RMA your OS with nothing else to use.

typically, the samsung, crucial, and intels seem to have a better track record in
performance and usage. now you can try and be that shinning apple and make
it work, but you'd be in a major minority.. especially here on OC3D.

I will be doing some video editing of some like 1080p possibly even 1440p of game clips of me playing. I chose the 3930k because I don't want to have to upgrade for soo long, same with 16GB of ram. The main use is for games and office work with some video editing as said above. Ok I will look for a different SSD. What do you mean is it a theme build, do you mean it has a color scheme? Um if that is what you mean I am trying for a black and white sleek build. By billet ally what do you mean? By metal mixing do you mean nickel parts and copper parts are in the same loop?

Nickel and copper are usually OK together, aluminum is never OK with anything, so don't use aluminum.

Why not just get an external disk drive and free up the internal drive for your res? Are you really going to be using CDs that often?

You should be able to pick up a Samsung 830 series for around the same price as the OCZ SSD. Much better track record (IMO, look better, too).

IMO, on the case choice, the only reason to choose one of those over the others is personal preference. They're all good cases. If you go with watercooling, I THINK (not sure at all), the NZXT will give you the most room to play with/options with regards to your rad choices and placements, though.

Ok phew I was only planning on copper radiator(s) with heatkiller nickel CPU and gpu block to keep the black and white sleek look. I think that in those heatkiller blocks it is still copper that touches the coolant, I think the nickel is just a plate on the front for aesthetics.

No thank you to the external disc reader. Thank you for more information on an SSD, I will continue to search for a good one. For the case I think I will have to choose somehow, maybe on looks I don't know.

Cons fan mesh ruins the window

Nzxt switch 810 pros window, customisability, ease of watercooling,
Cons I have heard it can look plasticy, window shows ODD bays.

Cm storm/Stryker pros gorgeous window, good ODD/HDD/SSD options, the looks, handle, nice I/O panel
Cons a bit shorter compared to the switch

When it comes to cases, its your personal choice, personally i would get the stryker, but only cause im in love with it.
