I thought i would start a thread on my first ever new build.

There won't be to much in the way of modding but you got to start somewhere!!

The system will be for my sister and i intend to overclock it on air so its fast but stable (so she does not keep calling me telling me it's not working)

The specs are

Enermax CS-527 Black Midi tower case

DFI Lanparty UT Nf4 ultra D

A.C Ryan 550W PSU

AMD Opteron 144

1Gb Gskill LE PC3200

Nvidia 6800 Ultra

300Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm

Gigabyte CPU cooler

LG DVD recorder

LG DVD drive

Windows XP Pro

The pics before i begin...

Some help please!!

i am trying to connect the IEEE port on the case to the Mobo and things don't match, the letters on the cables say

VG, VG, GRD, VP, VP, TPB+, TPB-, TPA+ AND TPA-

The connections on the Mobo say

TBA+, TBA-, GRD, GRD, TPB+. TPB-,12V fused, 12V fused AND GND

any ideas?

I wouldn't worry about plugging this bit in yet until you've built the computer and installed the operating system.

It's become rare for me to even bother plugging them in, as will you ever use it? Correct me if I'm mistaken but I think that USB2 is faster anyway :D

Oh, VP probably stands for Voltage Positive, and VG for Voltage Ground. So you should be able to see that they match up now with the 12V Fused(VP) and Ground (VG) :)

I discovered my PSU has a 24 pin to 20 pin main power cable rather than 24 pin to 24 pin' hopefully i can get an adapter next week but in the mean time i wanted to start loading XP and so on and have a spare PSU.

Can i connect my spare PSU with a 24 pin connection and the PSU installed in the case at the same time or will this cause problems?

Eh?

You can run an external PSU to the fitted system, and you can run two PSU's if they are connected via the green line...

...if that's what you mean? :p

a few pics of my first attempt at building a PC from scratch not an amazing feet i no but still you have to start somewhere next I'll be competing with Phil LOL!!

that is very good, especially for your first rig mate, considerign iv seen people who are building their 4 or 5th rig have much messyer wiring im very impressed

Phil

mate - it's even tidier than some I have seen that have been done by people obsessed with overly tidy rigs.

Deffo a looker mate - ur sister should be very proud of your achievement :)

Got anything specific in mind? I suspect this might be a case where someone gets someone to build them a system, and then cant get hold of it as they are always modding, tweaking, fiddling etc :p

Nice work on the rig! :)

G

Excellent first system build - good solid rig. Hope your sister is pleased with it.
