currently in the throes of building a new rig (mostly for games and autocad), came here seeking knowledge.

current system

asus p5nd2-sli mobo

evga 8800gts

pentium d805 clocked to 3.4 ghz (air cooled by zalman)

2 gb corsair

3 250gb samsung sata hd, raided together

in the pricing out process for the new system, heres what im looking at so far...

ASUS Striker II NSE LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

XFX GX280NZDF9 GeForce GTX 280

PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066

AeroCool ExtremEngine 3T - SSA Silver SECC 0.6mm ATX Mid Tower

thinking ill probably try out water cooling this time.

if anyone has any input on my project, dont hesitate to throw it out there. thats why i came.

(cracks me up that i cant say t-o-s-s. lol)

yeah thats some budget rig there :p come on thats totally high end! btw you need ddr3 ram, as i believe nvidias 790i chipset only accepts ddr3 ;)

hehe, well, i didnt say what the budget was.

trying to do this for less than $1400. so far im right on the edge. i may have to cut out the case.

hmmmm.....

i hadnt seen that, but i think you are correct. thanks kat.

possibly. im kind of torn. the 9800gx2 beats the 280 in a lot of tests, but doesnt scale as well when when in sli, whereas the 280 seems to be a card that will improve over the next couple months with new drivers and more gpu dependant programs. i went with the 280, cause it seems to give me a little future proofing.
