Right, where to begin, my main rig spec's are in my sig for starters...
i wanted to end my dependance on that devil that is microsoft by porting my laptop and main pc to ubuntu, now, my laptop has gone smooth sailing, but my pc is another matter
first time i tried, i got a load of HDD errors, but i figured that was because i was doing it wrong, so i soon sorted that, but the second time, it gets so far through the instalation, and i just get white and purple horizontal lines on the screen, perfectly symetrical, like = all the way down, so i figued that was a fail, i tried it 3 or 4 times, with the same result, so i figured either linux doesnt like my GFX card or there's summet wrong somewhere...
so i stuck my vista disk back in *sigh*, booted up, it loaded bios just fine, as normal, loaded boot menu, boot from cd, it loaded like the ....chart ...the post, and then it came up with a line of random charicters, and the screen went off...these random charicters were at the bottom where it normally says 'press any key to boot from cd' ....
then this last time i did it, same again, bios, post, press any key to boot from cd ...but it actually said it this time, it got to 'windows is loading files' and the bar from left to right, got half way across and then the screen just went a haze of random colours and the whole pc shut off....
im normally quite good at diagnosis....but this one is beyond me, im starting to loose it in my old age (21
)
im thinking the problems may be:
graphics
main HDD
both?
anyone else got an idea?...i really hope i dont have to go and buy some new parts for it
i have a spare hdd, but not until tomorow...
