Hi there and thanks in advance for you help with this but this is something i need help with. I have just got my GTX 480 TODAY and was like a little kid at christmas but was unaware of the problems i would run into. The problem is.

At first when i pluged the gtx in i turned on and noticed NO POST SCREEN. so i took it out and put my 9800gt back it and it worked so i turn back off and put the gtx back in but under a diffrent pci-e slot and still no joy i tried all slots and changed all leads from the psu and still no joy, Now i restarted just after that and started reading the motherboard screen to see error code and it says 7F. Reading up on this is the worst error which is not good to hear. basicly something is wrong. so i reseated the card a few more times in difrent slots and then plugged in the 9800 at the same time mix matching it and yeah i got it to work.

BUT

I will not show the post screen it will just go stright through and go stright to indown which GOD KNOW HOW BUT IT DOSE SHOW GRAPHICS BUT RESTARTED IT AND YEAH NO POST SCREEN AGAIN BUT WILL BOOT AND THEN SHOW GRAPHICS IN WINDOWS.

To clear anything up this is my system specs

EVGA 680i SLI

Intel q6600 + Zulman areoflower

4gb Kingston Hyper-X DDR2

Antec 1200 Case WITH EXTRA FANS

Corsair HX1000 PSU

Also i have noticed that the Subvendor is NVIDIA in gpu-z and normally it says eg. XFX, EVGA, ASUS GIGABYTE ECT ECT What i was to know is how could i tell if this is an engineering sample or a prerelese as i have never had this in gpu-z befor and i downloaded it today so not using an old version its the latest. hear is a screen shot or GPU-Z

Tell me what ya think guys and tell mw how i can overcome this, also i have noticed that the frame rates are not much diffrent then my 9800gt about 10fps more maybe in battlefield bad company 2 with everything maxed out obvious the 9800gt is only 8 or 16x AA and AF whear as i was using 32x AA and 16x AF and using 1080p res. And the biggest flaw is the heat OMG 99c in crysis system was starting to crash and had to force it to close. tell me what ya think guys. Thanks John

Firstly what brand of GTX480 is it?

Also could you post a picture of the inside of your case. It would be best if you can include the entire inside of the PC in the picture.

Always helps troubleshooting.

have you seen the post here: http://www.tech-forums.net/pc/f77/evga-680i-board-error-code-7f-161863/#post1259047

Thats the prob i dont know brought from ebay so..... humm.... and posting a pic will be diffcult as dont have a digi or webcam. But will try and post a pic tomoz if i can get 1 and yeah i did read that earlier aswell and i can rule out the ram as is been in there for a year now and no probs at all not even a glitch so humm.........

7F is a post error check according to the M/B hand book. Do you have molex plugged into M/B from the power supply as well as the required PCI Express power leads to the card. Is the card new or second hand?

yeah i do and made no diffrence at all i could not be a power issue with the card as 1 im using a corsair hx1000 and 2 is it will play games also, just thinking it could be because the gpu its new tech and and the system is about 3-4 years old so might not be equiped to cope with it, also my wei score is odd but this might be due to motherboard bandwith issues, what i need is someone with a good system to test this card and see but none of my mates are into computers like i am lol so im stuffed on that 1 lol. any more thoughts ill try and get pics of inside the system but lack of digicam so ill do it when i can get.

basicly 10 miles from Brighton inbetween Brighton and Eastbourne i would be more then willing to travle if i could get help as i am inlove with this card, the graphics are completly diffrent but almost same frame rate as the 9800gt so which is making me think it could be cpu bottleneck or motherboard bottleneck or just a dodgy card but need to sort it. If you live close drop me a text 07955969520 cheers guys

I would like to add, I am a cooling nut even tho i dont overclock my system i always use aftermarket cooling as i have ruined a q6600 with the intel standerd hsf so yeah i do go over the top as if you spend 150 on a cpu better to spend the 20 and make sure there is no probs as will save ya money in the long run all my system is run at stock speeds just to add.

Have a look at the EVGA forum pages to see if any issues/answers there. Which bios you are using? On the evga website the latest bios is P33 and it says it fixes PCI and PCIe compatibility issues. I would look into that a bit first to see if there are any compatibility issues with the 480 card and that board.

What version of windows are you using? and do you have the latest motherboard drivers, again look at the EVGA website. Also when you un-installed the old drivers for the 9800 did you use a driver cleaner then install the latest nvidia drivers?

yeah i did use driver cleaner in loaded new drivers in safe mode and also have just updated bios also and still now joy thats anyway bro AND.... I have only just found out even tho my motherboard has a lifetime warrentee with EVGA it is void because it was brought from ebay. so whats the point of saying lifetime warrentee on your porduct if they dont actually hold there promise? Anyway i have tried and tried but no joy i have gamed with it as you just have to wait for windows to load then it shows graphics on the desktop. Ideally i might take it to a pc shop and get them to test it out and bench it for me but another thing that is really bugging me is that the subvendor or the card is NVIDIA so i might actually take it apart and see if its a engineering sample and if so i will land the seller in the doo doo. As NVIDIA actually own them no matter what and ill get the guy banned as these should not sell and no discription what so ever was mentioned. So if no joy at pc shop tomoz then im gonna take the hsf off and look at the chip. and ill post pics if it is a sample keep up with ideas

the 480 requires the power with a minimum of 42 amps on the +12 volt rail. i see the 9800 wants 40 so i think/guess this aint the problem
