Prime won't push past x40/x43 multi

For some reason Prime95 won't push my cpu past x43 on the multi with base clock of 99.8mhz. I set the multi in bios to x45 and vcore to 1.310v for some reason the multi tends to sit around x40 and sometimes jumps up to x43 then back to x40 again. I've tried running small FFTs Large FFT and Blend and none pushed past x43 but even when it went up there is went down to x40 again.

So I guess my question is what am I doing to not let it go past x43 and is it prime or did I forget something in bios.

Bios settings I didn't change much all I did was set

multiplier to manual - 45

Load line I left at auto the options were level 1-5 or auto, auto said level 5 so I left it alone.

Vcore - 1.310v but in CPU-Z it doesn't go past 1.240v'

Also when I open an application it jumps to 4.5 1.312v but oddly it stays at 1.312 even when going back down to the x16?

Just tried a quick launch of BF3 multi goes to x45 but voltage sits at 1.256v

current BIOS is 2.2, are you still on 2.1?

what version of CPU-Z (1.60 is latest)?

do you have Intel Burn Test (IBT)?

BIOS 2.2 no how necessary is it to update BIOS? I heard there isn't a real reason to unless you're getting a new cpu and such.

CPU-Z 1.60.1

IBT no

Edit - Downloaded IBT tested on standard so far and went up to x45 and 1.248vcore was the highest I saw it go to. I'm going to continue testing making sure it is 100% stable, best part is the highest I've seen temps go are 64c on the 3rd lowest fan setting on my cooler

IBT seems to do the trick

I downloaded IBT as I thought it was the most strenuous of all the stress tests (well, it certainly yields the highest temps) and my CPU is fine with it. Prime, however, is very seldom stable. As IBT is the harder of the two, I usually go by that

The fact is, hardly anything that we do will ever recreate the stresses made by these simulated stresses, so you should be just fine for gaming etc.

^ yeah, I did some gaming and was completely fine, I'm not sure if I was getting higher FPS or I was just not noticing it before or if it was just a placebo affect but I noticed a bit of an FPS increase in BF3. I did the Very High test in IBT maybe later tonight when I have a moment when I'm not using my pc I'll do the extreme just for the sake of doing it and see how that goes.

But overall I think it's not bad for my first time OC'ing aside from the Prime issue I had it's pretty simple.

right click on the start button of IBT. new button appears - extreme stress mode click it and it'll highlight.

click start again and bam, it'll torture rack your system. right click start button again and it'll unselect esm.

didn't know if anyone knew this mode.

Hi,

It sounds to me like you've set 45 for the peak TURBO level rather than the base level. When using turbo you'd expect to see exactly what you are. Basically the CPU will push one core to 4.5 when loaded, but when two or more cores are loaded it pushes each less.

Launching an app / running a game will often see just one core working harder than the others, so that one core jumps to 4.5 as needed. When running Prime 95, or any other such bench, it loads ALL cores so ALL cores ramp up to a lesser amount.

I might be wrong, but this is exactly what I saw when first playing around with the turbo settings on my first Sandy B. motherboard.

Re: IBT... yeah, IBT is a harsh harsh test indeed. It's great for identifying instabilities in seconds that might take hours of "lesser" stress/bench tests to identify. It's also a good test for your cooling potential as nothing heats a CPU like IBT. Do make sure you use the latest version with a Sandy/Ivy B. CPU though, as the prior versions use a different version of Linpack and are about as stressful as MineSweeper on Sandy/Ivy B. lol.

Scoob.
