Prices of nehalem/new mobo and cpu??

Upgrade possibly in order

Hey

The thing is - how much is nehalem going to cost and when is it going to be realistically launched?

I mean, my poor p5b deluxe mobo and e6300 arent really cutting in - in terms of overclockability, support for my reaperx 4gb ram and system performance.

If nehelam is gonna cost alot (!) then I might as well get a good quad to carry me over. When are these cuts in costing coming into effect and are they going to be significant?

If i may as well get a new mobo/quad now, what is going hot? I still cant believe the prices tho (£180 being average for a mobo!) - This should complete my reaperx 4gb, 8800gt and, by then, watercooling combo (which ill to sell b4 nehalem goes big xD)

I'm wondering the same... I'm not on my PC as much but I still like having a nice rig.

I really want to see how much of a perf. boost over current cpu's nehalem gives IRL; namely games.

In the past I saw the 'buy the quad core it's future proof' arguments and got caught up in the hype when in reality an OC'd dual core at 4ghz-ish outperforms the quad in games and keeps up in apps.

I'm thinking screw a new mobo/ram/cpu and pick up a bargain 45nm quad paired up with my gx2 or a 4870x2/CF/280/sli/another gx2/w.e

Well im only thinking new mobo as my p5b deluxe:

Doesnt fully allow configuring of my ram as its not suited for higher density (according to OCZ)

Is an older board and is starting to show age

Then theres ocing...

And my e6300 - well, i was at the budget end of whats considered old tech anyway lol

Im planning on selling the lot once nehalem is proven and mainstream

Is Q6600 G0 still where its at? Or perhaps as mentioned in smithys post, a good old dual core? I know the abit board was a good choice but hmm

Im thinking along the lines of:

DFI LANPARTY LTX38-T2R

(Asus dont allow enough tweaking of the TRFC or something in bios to be used well with reaperx)

Im torn between perhaps a Q6600 depending on if immortal gaming has a g0 stepping or a e8*** series

whatchu think? dont wanna be spending alot, really all i want it for is gamin and general system speed

Imo, benchmarking there will be a % increase across the board. Irl for games etc, I don`t think there`ll be an increase in performance for the nehalem. If u Rar alot, do movie prep, etc - I can see the time saving coming.

I`d like to sample a DFI board of some quality. ASUS I have a bad taste in my mouth.

Same, Asus is usually quite solid but there a niggly little things that need to be addressed.

Im pretty much decided on the dfi x38 board (looks nice)

But as to the cpu choice - a quad or a dual core?

Then it also boils down to which of these to get? Looking for not too expensive, powerful enuf, overclockable, run cool and all the rest of it xD
