Power issues

I've built a rig for a friend but its having power issues.

When it powers on it seems fine but sometimes you hit the power button, the whole thing lights up for a split second and then it turns off just leaving the power button on the motherboard glowing. Then if you try and press either the front or mobo power button nothing happens. To get it to actually turn on again you have to kill the power for a few seconds using the PSU main power switch and then switch it all back on.

Now, I don't know if this is a PSU fault or a motherboard fault. What should I do, or what have I done to cause this?

Thanks

From my experience, it is very unlikely to be your case at fault. My suggestion would be to try another PSU first, ensuring that all the connectors are correctly connected, then try it again.

I had this issue once when my PSU wasn't powerful enough for the system.

Try the above first.

What hardware does your friend have in that case?

Regards

I changed the psu for my one and it was fine so I've RMA'd his PSU and waiting for it to come back. The psu is a 650tx and he's running haswell and a gtx770 so the psu should be easily powerful enough to even run 2 770's
