Plenty of help required.

So basically i need plenty of help or opinions about the build im going to do be doing in the next few weeks.

What i THOUGHT i might get:

Corsair 600t Special edition

Motherboard: ???

i5-2500k

Corsair H100

GTX 570

8GB ram, but double up for 16 later, was looking at corsair vengeance but feel free to point at others.

HDD: Use a harddrive until the next months wages and then get an SSD + HDD combo.

Power supply ? Was thinking 750W 80+ bronze/silver/gold, i want to stick another 570 in later, as well as have multiple drives going. The 750w was a number supplied by a psu calc website, but with a bit of room to spare IIRC, feel free to shout at me for being a fool.

However i'm thinking i'm being stupid getting the H100, it's probably overkill for what i need, and theres air coolers for a lot cheaper. When i get around to overclocking im going to be doing a low overclock, 4GHz or something, instead of the usual 4.5 i see for i5's. This is due to not having overclocked before.

However im none to sure about what cpu cooler to get if i go air on it, also whether the Ram will fit under it (been looking at some large models), whether i should get a 600t or save some money and get something else? Bitfenix colossus looks pretty awesome but i couldn't see a TTL review of it... for example.

Motherboard is the main issue, i'd be overjoyed with the build above but i just don't know what motherboard to go for. MOBO budget is probably £150.

EDIT: gaming / general usage.

A Gigabyte UD4 will come in around £95 and is a good solid choice for a motherboard

Ram either black Mushkin, or Black or White low profile vengence will fit nicely with the case/mobo and wouldn't foul what ever cpu cooler you decide on.

If you can grab either the Corsair HX850 or AX850 then that will be perfect for if you end up adding a 2nd 570 later (i LOVE my ax850 <3).

Cpu cooler wise the h100 might be a little over kill if you wont be pushing it, a cheaper alternative that will still give a nice clean look would be either Be Quiet Dark rock ADVANCED or Dark rock PRO.

I know you are eager now, starting your own new build, but we have come to a point where something new hardware is about to launch.Ivy bridge is realeased late next month, nvidia kepler within a few weeks. And now we have amd hd78xx gpu which are better than gtx570.My advice wait about a month before you buy new hardware.

I'm aware of the hardware coming out, but it was my assumption that they would be pretty pricey, being new... or even that the older hardware might be pushed down in price a bit (Justifying a 580 instead of 570 for example). Or am i being stupid?

Thank you for the advice on PSU hunta, i'll look into 850W PSUs.

This build was really always going to be a 2 month build, this months paycheck will get it running, one 570, half the ram, cheapo hdd for example, and the next month was for SLI / SSD / Fan upgrades etc, however if you truely suggest i wait then i guess a few weeks won't hurt. I do see everywhere mentions of RAM being extra cheap right about now, cant hurt to buy some of that soonish can it?

The Ivy Bridge prices are rumored to be the same as the Sandy bridge prices. Older hardware will be pushed down in price. I suggest going for Ivy Bridge and the newer hardware but it all depends on your budget.

Ivy Bridge isn't due for at least another month (source) and apparently there isn't going to be much of an improvement in terms of power. Which would be expected anyway since it is only a die shrink and not a new architecture. TTL even alluded to this fact in one of his vids, can't remember which though so can't link sorry

The i5-2500K is a pretty amazing CPU and the fact it overclocks so well means it will be still class in a few years time.

The 570 & 580 prices fell a few weeks back, probably because the 7870 is so class so now is probably a good time to be in the market for a GPU too.

Basically what I'm saying is if you've got the money now and are in a rush you won't lose out on much by not waiting.

On the other hand if your still thinking that you'd like to make the purchases for this build in two shipments then your better off waiting and save up your cash until you have enough to buy it all in one go, that way we might be closer to other Kelper cards and Ivy's release.

Buying today something like this would be pretty nice

+1

no matter what you buy something will always come out better, if you wait for the best thing in your budget, you will never buy anything, you will always be waiting.

I have an Asus P8Z68 Gen3 Motherboard and it has been great for my needs. I also think it is a good price as well at around £120 - £130

It achieved a nice 4.3ghz automatic overclock on my 2500k with no problems with stability
