My brother wants to upgrade his PC and this is what he wants:

Intel Core 2 Duo (with stock cooler, not going to oc )

2gb of ram

Mobo

(will keep the rest of his PC)

He has $400 INCLUDING TAX and DELIVERY to spend and he wants to order it from NEW EGG or TIGER DIRECT of possible.

This one would bring you closer to 400; you gain a couple extra MHz, faster FSB, and double cache. The real world performance increase may not be substantial (check some benches), but if you've got the money, why not.

Yea I would be inclined to go for the faster C2D if he's not clocking. Althoug you can still clock a fair bit on a stock cooler with minimal effort.

:O the E6400 was like $240 yesterday im sure of it, thats why I didnt spec it. Would he have to get different ram with the E6420???

both are solid boards, maybe not for OC'in but like you said he wasn't going too.

Does Newegg even ship to the UK? I know they are too lazy to bother shipping to Canada. Not that it matters to me, as I know a few local stores with better prices than Newegg.

On such a tight budget, I would go for the ASUS P5K SE, which costs less than the P5B with the P965 chipset, and has a longer upgrade path. I'm sure he doesn't want to stay with the E4400 for that long.
