i just bought this from aria here

Description:

Pioneer’s BDR-206DBK is the first BDXL drive, which supports triple-layer BD-R (write-once) and BD-RE (rewritable) discs with huge capacities of 100GB, and even 128GB quad-layer

Key Features:-

- Max Write Speed: 16x DVD, 12x BD-R, 40x CD-R

- Max Read Speed: 16x DVD, 8x BD, 40x CD-R

- 4MB buffer memory

- Serial ATA (SATA2) interface

----------

i currently have a samsung sh-b083l bluray reader/dvdrw - but it is great at burning dvds, but tempremental at CDs

i used to have a pioneer dvdwriter a year ago (before i sold it), and i have always thought pioneer were the best i have ever used

----------

the question is this... has anyone had any experience with this blu-ray writer?

it supposedly is a quad-layer BRDwriter, but i haven't seen these disks yet!!!

was it a good buy?

Pioneer are very good as a brand and in terms of quality. Not used that re-writer before, but the Blu Ray recorder we have hooked to the TV is Pioneer, works well.

i have just looked around for some quad-layer BRdisks and i almost had a heart attack..... £37 per 128GB disk

1TB HDDs are less than £50 - lol

but on this brighter side:

  • this is the fastest BRD burner i have found
  • the disks will be easier to store, than hundreds of 2.5" hard drives

  • it will be future-proof (if BDXL takes off!)
  • and, the OEM version from aria is the cheapest i have found (retail versions are £300 elsewhere)

when it arrives tommorrow (or monday) i will do some speed tests, and a small review

A friend of mine has a Pioneer bluray burner, forgot the model but the front bezel is glossy. He has been burning bluray's, dvd's and cd's for sometime now and he goes its the best drive he has come across so far

Looking at the drive you have bought, it looks just as awesome, definitely a good buy. I might buy one as well

well, it arrived today

i have burnt:

  • a full BDR-SL in 15mins
  • a full BDR-DL in 19mins
  • a full DVD-DL in 11mins
  • a CD in just under 3mins

and this is the quietest burner i have ever used - i cannot even hear the tray ejecting

i would recommend this PIONEER BDR-206DBK - blu-ray(XL) re-writer to anyone

note: to burn BDXL disks you need the latest powerDVD app (not free in the OEM version), and those disks can only be read in drives manufactured from 2011 onwards. they will not work in older BRDs (pre-2011).
