hey all,

first and foremost I would like to thank Bitfenix for this case that I won in a contest.

Second I would like ,as a man, to keep my promises and show to the Bitfenix company how this case can be improved

it's a great case , all-around black , with many many features.

first of all I really like its design which is simple , neat and stylish and provides great ventilation with mesh on the front panel and top.

many nice touches that make the difference, such as the rubber stands for the psu , much space for cable management behind the motherboard tray , all cables r in black ,nice stylish rubber/aluminum feet , 4x usbs 3 for speedy transfers , many black thumbscrews for the panels and pcie slots included, 3 great silent fans ( 2 at the front, 1 at the back) and the most important : all of them controlled by a fan controller located at the top!

besides all these great features there r few minor/major disadvantages that need to be fixed/improved/modded

1) mount place only for 200m fan at the top

2) not enough room at the bottom of the case for a 120mm fan after mounting the PSU

3) not very strong side panels

4) flimsy front and top panels mess

step 1 : creating 120mm fan mounts

as u can see in the following pic there's only a 200mm fan mount at the the top of the chassis

p0001040312.jpg

we are going to create 2 x 120mm/ 240 rad mount and keep the 200mm fan mount as well

downloaded a template and located where it will be set

p0004040312.jpg

cut it with the jigsaw

p0005040312.jpg

opened new holes for the screws

p0006040312.jpg

done!!we could easysily cut the chassis for a 360mm rad too.

step 2 : creating room for a 120mm fan at the bottom

I was really dissapointed when finding that my power supply unit covers 2 of the screw holes in the bottom of the case and there was not enough room for the fan . only 105mm distance from psu to hdd cage

p0002040212bb.jpg

the bottom of the HDD cage is not used so we can cut away most of it and leave just the necessary for standing part.

p0005040212.jpg

also opened new holes cause the others were on the removed piece

p0006040212.jpg

p0007040212.jpg

mounted it back with black rivets

p0008040212.jpg

done!

this is what I've done so far..

thanx for watching people

looks promising so far. But question since ya have the tools and skilz why not move that lower fan further forward making more room on psu and getting the fan more under the hdd bay where it could aid in cooling the hdd;s??

true but I tried to use the existing hole. if I moved it further forward then there would a be an opening in the bottom of the case . covering the opening with some aluminum would be ugly

I see your point but it would just be extra ventalation and imho not overly unsightly. Cant wait to see what else ya do

step 3 : customizing the look

once it's all around black I thought of adding a little "contrast"

the idea comes out of this :

contentmanual.jpg

which is the cases manual
tongue.png

made the pattern in scetch-up , printed on sticker , cut the pieces where it would be painted , stuck it on the case , sanded to specific areas and added mask tape in order to produce that "worn" look !!

primer 's on

p0001032412.jpg

and sprayed with the airbrush

cured for 2 hours, unmasked and here we r

How did the paint react to the softtouch?
ohmy.png

Nice improvement imo

thanx

the paint job turned out really nice and even . I used my airbrush and water acrylic paint which is kinda "soft" paint. I used a scrafing pad after the paint had cured making it smoother

nice that white looks awefully bright any plans on aging/wearing it any??? Since ya have a airbrush should be easy enough to do. Lovin it so far..

yes,it was pretty bright at that moment. after the paint cured and scratching it with the scurfing pad it became less bright.

adding some aged effect is a very nice idea. thanx for that
