Picking Dual 27" Screens...

Hey guys

Looking at getting 2 new 27" screens to replace the imac im selling.

I was considering 2 dell ultrasharp's but at around £900 thats the near max of my budget.

I wanted to know if i can get equal performance from anything else or better value elsewhere?

Only requirement is HDMI which i assume everything has now

Thanks for some help!

Can I ask why HDMI?
HDMI from computers recognises things as HDTVs and so settings can be a little dodgey. With me, I have triple screens, 2 through DVI and the third through HDMI, and the colours are slightly slightly different because of this. Just something to bare in mind. Try to use the same interface if you can on both, which will most likely be DVI.

As for the screens, You pay a big premium with places like Dell for 27 inch IPS monitors. I would personally look at getting something smaller like 23 or 24 and saving some money.

The new AOC monitors at Aria look really nice:

But, they are only 1080p screens, whilst the Dell are 2560x1440. 1080p at that size can look a bit odd, so I probably wouldn't recommend it.

The Dell monitors are beautiful - but as you say at £900 that is a little expensive, considering all 3 of my 23 inch IPS screens came to less than half of that. But, they do use the same IPS panel as the Apple Cinema Displays do - so you know you're getting a quality product...

Have you thought about getting say 3 screens of a smaller size?

Hi

I need HMDI for my xbox 360 and freeview box, i already have 24" screens so wouldnt upgrade if it wasnt for bigger.

if you look at yamakasi catleaps, they use 27" cinema display pannels with terrible build cases, but they are around 250 each, so they might be a smart choice with a warranty

You don't want a catleap. They're incredibly bad quality casing - and they do use the same screens - but they use the cheap disregarded units that aren't good enough for use by Dell or Apple. Also, you get next to no support if anything goes wrong.

I'd try and go for the Dells tbh. I think you'll be disappointed by the quality of anything else.

Maybe if you're really struggling go for the AOCs, but you'll be far happier with the Dells

but the catleaps can just be sent back? who cares about cases when theyre hung off a bracket a meter or two away? they have some sort of warranty?

they just seem a better choice as 2 costs less than 1 dell

these are meant to be really good...

Looking at the reviews, that monitor seems pretty nice for the price. I would purchase one to begin with and check it out before purchasing another.
