PhysX card worth it or not?

Well as I got to know the shop owner pretty well (bought a lot of stuff there) he is going to lend me the card they use on their demo machine for the weekend so I can test it on my own config and see if it worth the buy. I have GRAW2 so I will check out the benefit of having a PhysX card or not.

The Unreal engine blows me away! :)

I have always supported it.. never liked the quake one to be honest.

Lets hope we can see the PhysX card in action.. I need something to chnage my mind about it.. :D

I dont think crysis will shine much for a while since the amount of guys with dx10 hardware will be limited, the amoutn that have it good enough to play crysis will be more limited, and the amount that have all that and DO actually play crysis at the same time as you will be extremly limited!!

ANd ithout dX10 on multiplayer theres no day/night smashing trees stuff.

Ok got the PhysX card today, it's an ELSA Phynite100... it's small and only has a very small heatsink and fan on the processor so I suppose it won't produce too much heat.

Installation went well, no problem in vista and I just updated the drivers to the latest one. The card comes with 2 games CellFactor and StokedRider. First impression after a quick test, I am trully not impressed by those 2 games. CellFactor is okay but nothing terrific even on the physics and StokedRider is a shame :(

Will see what GRAW2 will look like with the PhysX later tonite

ELSA is a Japanese maker I beleive so probably not distributed elsewhere but there gfx cards are very good.

Here is a link, unfortunatly in Japanese but you can see the card:

As for GRAW2 well the benefit of PhysX must be pretty limited, nothing that really blows my mind. Maybe some explosion are more realistic but nothing spectacular so far that would justify to pay for the card.

Maybe in unreal2007 it will be worth having but at the moment I don't see any real improvement over a standard gfx only. I will maybe reconsider buying a PhysX card in the future if games are really using it.
