Phone upgrade

Somebody explain to me what the appeal is of a 6" smartphone which doesn't even last a day without a recharge and doesn't fit in any pocket.
The people in my class bring their charging cables to school. It's absurd.
I have a 4s. It lasts for a day without needing a recharge and I run it on a normal brightness with wifi/3g on. I'm a heavy texter and I use it throughout the day to check emails/IM. Bluetooth is turned off as I don't need that crap. The appeal of iPhones for people is that they are simple to use, considered stylish and seen as secure (they are compared to android). Honestly I prefer them over android. If it was my own money I'd go for a Windows phone tbh though as I like the phones themeselves more. Apple stuff however, just works. Android for me is still not an option, mainly because of my experience with it but also I don't want the same OS as a fake iphone :). I still can't see android as a high end OS either but thats probably me being incredibly unimpressed with android phones. Some 'droid phones do look amazingly nice.

Android is bad because fake iphones use it? Okay.
Iirc there have been huge security issues lately with iOS 7?
I also couldn't support Apple from an ethical standpoint, nor do i want to have the image of being an Apple user.
I meant phones like the Note 3, i get why people buy iphones even though i think the arguments aren't valid anymore.

Oh god huge phones are stupid, i'll give you that. I can see the appeal if you don't ever carry your phone in your pocket and want to watch alot of things on a small screen. Also you got to remember the phone is becoming more of a status/fashion symbol so the bigger the more likely people will notice it.
In regards to iOS 7 (why I'm defending apple I don't know, I'm not even that big a fan of iOS, especially now its been made to look more kiddie and android-esque)the security issues were identified and dealt with quickly. I should know as they emailed people and told them about it. Android is far from secure itself.

iPhones are so common there isn't an apple 'image' associated with them anymore. If you want that you need an imac ;).
Android is bad (to me) because of how insecure it is (the perils of an open source OS that is popular :( ) and how its been incredibly problematic with everything I've been asked to do with it. Its also because of the hardware which runs android I've been dealing with is either cheap and crap or feels cheap (the samsung Galaxy s3 I was asked to configure really put a bad taste in my mouth). I'm sure with a powerful phone with loads of grunt that isn't made from plastic and 'metal' (or atleast feels like a premium product) would make android a better experience. Android should be the future, that much is true, however I really don't like it at this moment in time.

Well that's Samsung for you, a cheap shell and still a premium price. The Z1 compact has a body made of glass and metal.
Cheap hardware? Now that really sounds like apple fanboy talk
I suppose you mean the body because the Qualcomm CPUs are the best on the market afaik.
There was also that issue with 600k infected Apple devices not too long ago. I don't think either one of the OS really scores on security.

Samsung stuff is good n all, but in my experience its horribly overrated. Their phones are an excellent example of this.

The first android phone I used felt like a toy the plastic was so bad. It had some terribad cpu, don't think it was a quadcore. More like a half core. heuheu. Can hardly call it fan boy talk when the phone would lag on angry birds :p. Apple phones are hardly the fastest (keep the same dual core with a clock speed increase seems to be apples method last time I checked) however they can keep up with quite a few phones easily. Most windows phones blow the iPhones out of the water though. Same with high end android. Price/performance has never been an apple strongpoint though.

I'm really looking forward to that modular phone. The ability to build my own phone really appeals to me, it must be said.

Tbh i didn't even plan on getting a new phone before the phonebloks thing would become a thing, but idk when it will happen and my current phone is so close to dying, i can't afford to wait for it.

As soon as it comes out (ideally with a decent cpu) I'll be getting one. Regardless of OS.

Yeah, that will be really great. I cant wait for Project Ara (phonebloks) It will probably run Android, as its developed by google.

Not to sound fanboyish, but no mention of BB10 devices. Oh, we are worried about security and the only phone that has the best security out and unhackable and no mention. Oh right inferior hardware, but wait, Qualcomm CPU makes the best hardware, funny, that is who makes the cpu's for the BB10 devices. No bloatware, no change in speed from new to over a year old. May not have the highest speed processor, but the OS doesn't need it.

Intel make the best desktop CPUs, still i'd have an 8350 any day over a celeron.
BB10 = shit tier qualcomm dual core
Also i am not worried about security much, it's not like you go online and instantly have 10 keyloggers.

true its not their top of the pile, but with QNX its not needed to get similar performance as an Android device which requires more power to do the same functions, and more power equates to bigger battery drain as well. Its like saying an intel cpu with hyperthreading is better than one without when the software you are using can't take advantage of hyperthreading, but more is better right?

Android doesn't need twice the power to do the same thing. I don't want a phone with hardware which has been out of date for 2 years. Especially not when it's the same price as a phone with a CPU twice as good.
Also the Z1 compact can run easily for 2 days and more.
I don't want a phone that will be outdated in 6 months. I might not need the quadcore now, but i will use the phone for probably have a decade. A lot of things can and will change.

Yea i looked that one up as well. But in reviews people said the difference is barely noticeable. It's also sold out for pretty much forever.

The Oppo 7a is now available for preorder. I've got to say it's tempting, the price is right, it has all the features and even comes with a 32GB SD card for preorderers (i know those things are like 20 euros).
Well, the size is unacceptable though. Too bad, but this should make the Nexus 5 and maybe even the Z1 compact cheaper.

It's a really good phone, especially for the price, and I guess you'll get used to the 5.5" screen. Truth is that with the specs you're looking for, almost every phone will have a big screen cause phones with small 480p screens don't need hardware that fast.

Just came across this company as well, don't know where you can purchase their phones but this ZTE Grand S comes with a 5" screen (half an inch smaller than the Find 7a) at 1080p with Gorilla Glass, a Quad Core Qualcomm CPU @ 1.7GHz, 13MP camera, 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, but I can't see if it has a Micro SD card slot.

If it does, and you can find it anywhere without paying massive import costs, it might be a good contender?

5.5" is definitely unacceptable, 5" is already a hard compromise to accept.
The ZTE is available in germany for a little more than a Moto G, it does have a micro SD slot but it only allows 32GB cards, it's also running jelly bean.

an option for extra storage for you to consider. You might look at which phones offer USB on the go! a function where you attach a usb to your phone with a special cable and it allows you to use your usb device as a storage device.

Yea someone mentioned that before, but then the form factor is pretty much gone.

true, but more of a back at home or the office solution to transport files, back up files etc. You work on a presentation or a bunch of files at work and they are stored on a usb. Out of the office you need access to these files, easy to just plug them in to your phone when you are out with a client or a business meeting where you have to travel. Easy solution instead of carrying them on your phone using up the space on your media card.

I use my 2TB WD My Cloud (NAS) for extra storage if I need it, get the app on your phone and enjoy 1-3TB of NAS.

iPhone is a 100% no from me due to too many reasons so I won't get in to it.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is a no from me due to the sheer ugliness of the thing.

Sony Xperia Z2 is very well specced but it is plastic, WTF, definite no, feels cheap as hell!

HTC One or the HTC One M8. The HTC One M8 is doesn't look as well as the HTC One but the One M8 5.0" display over the 4.7" on the One, better GPU, camera, glass, slightly less pixels on the screen but not noticeable, both 1080p, the One M8 has 2gb DDR3, the One has 2GB DDR2.

HTC One - "HTC One wins the Global Mobile Award for Best Smartphone at Mobile World Congress"

The HTC One M8 is far superior than the One, but the corners are now more rounded, quite rounded in fact, I heard somewhere that the shell was designed by Apple. Anyway, the full metal jacket makes the phone feel strong and nice to hold. Aluminium casing makes up 90% of the frame.

Also, love this case...
