Hi Folks, I will appreciate any suggection on budget performance bits to buy in building a rig for mainly video, photo editing and the usual surfing. I was thinking about going for socket 939. Importantly I won't shy away from the o/clocking tweakings. I have my old monitor, Hard drive and possibly use my old ATI radeon 9250 but might consider upgrading for o/c sake.

I have about 300 - 350 UK pounds to spend.

Another thing someone was going to sell their Oty 144 with CABNE 0545 BPMW stepping to me. Is this stepping any good?

Any suggection will be appreciated.

Thanks.

that stepping is ok, one of the better ones and would make a good overclocker.

do you do any gaming at all?

NO gaming for me but if I do I might be doing the old ones. Mainly will be video editing stuff like that. Well I have put some money down for the CPU thanks for the reply.

well this time last year, becuase you dont game i would have reecommended intel....but now the opterons kick ass over all..so buy the opteron.

motherboard......do you plan to overclock? maybe an nf4 ultra-d

ram - some of the geil stuff could be good, cheap but good performers.

video card - nvidia 6200 would be a good bet, would allow you to play a few game sif you wanted but not over the top.

psu - hmm im not up t dat eon psu's lately....maybe a hiper?

hdd - personal preference. same with a case and cd-rom drives

well with that budget i wouldnt bother getting a big brand psu just get a hiper 480w or something like that and getting a load of ram msi make some really good cheap mobos mostly there agp ones

i'm looking for a computer, what minimum specification do you advice (not a gamer) thanks for your help, truly greatful for your help.

biostar Tforce 939 mATX board

Opteron 144 skt 939

Get at least 1 gb ram ( TCCD works since you have a lower multiplier ) but 2 gb would be better even if you run a divider and get value 2 gb ram. ( Crucial and buffalo make quite good decent ocing 2gb value ram. Gskill HZ and PQI Turbo 2 gb kits are both for less than 200 USD here in US )

PSU : Get a Tagan 480 Watt psu ( make sure its 24 pin )

Gfx Card : X1300 or the 6600 would be a good choice.

Get a good aftermarket HSF since opterons DO get hot and do not expect any higher than 2.75 ghz from your stepping.
