I messed around with this all day yesterday. I wanted to see how this heatsink fared.

Getting an average temps at stock clocks.

Low fan speed Idle

Low fan speed loaded with three runs of wPrime 1024 to warm it up.

After that I only managed to get 4.444Ghz out of the CPU.

I will post Pictures when I finish work this evening.

One thing of note is, I don't know how BigIan managed to fit the cooler that way around. When I tried the heatpipes got in the way and it wouldn't go on.

Pics for comparison later.

it wouldnt mount the other way round for me without overlapping the mobo tray - it was a tight fit with heat sync in the way which is why i took a photo of it

I think this is how the heatsink should fit, but the power heatsink is in the way.

heatsink.jpg

Looking at BigIan's setup, his looks a bit out of shape. I don't know. I dont fancy bending the heatpipes and I can't see performance taking a hit.

This is how it's fitted.

Also on the kit is my Silverstone ST1000P 1000watt PSU and the MSI GTX580 Lightning.

I,m undecided which monitor to use. There won't be any GPU tests until after the comp, so a 1280 x 1024 will do for now.

Currently trying to find the limit of the memory.

I cant get the CPU over 4.4 via the multplier, so I,ve dropped the multiplier and upped the bus speed.

I'm at 220 bus speed for a memory speed of 1760 CL9-9-9-24 with the cpu at 4400.

More soon.

Hmm, will be interesting to see how the fan fits. Twin your test bench is the same as mine

hopefully now that I am back at my work residence I will find a parcel waiting for me tomorrow.

Mine arrived a bit worse for wearer tbh, as you can see from the unboxing it was bent to buggery on arrival and im making the most of what ive got

Yeah. It's even got Biostar's name on it

When mine arrived there was a cardboard spacer between the fan array and the heatsink. It was pretty rigid. My delivery man must've been more careful

Heatpipes at the bottom boys. The cut out if to go over the GPU power. thats also the reason why the second set of fins is smaller.

Would have been ok if Strawberry had posted pics like he should have. - Not happy.

I'll try changing it round when I get home. The mobo heatsink is in my way.

It will mean bending the heatpipes a bit by the look of Ian's, we'll see.

My build log. Where shall I start? So many goodies.

The cooler.

The Scythe Susanoo.

Susanoo is the Shinto god of the sea and storms. For the anime fans the name featured in Naruto as the name of Sasuke and Itachi’s jutsu.

God of storms, eh! It certainly looks the part.

Like the idiot I am I set this up wrong to begin with. I looked at BigIan’s setup and tried to copy it.

Unfortunately, it didn’t look right. It was only when I saw Marsey’s rig I realised what I had done. The hold down plates that screw to the bottom of the heatsink fit on any side, and i fitted them to the wrong sides. What a numpty.

The motherboard

Biostar TA890FXE

mboarda.jpg

AMD’s latest 890FX chipset is supposed to be overclocking friendly with 2 PCI-E x16 slots.

And in the socket is an AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition. I’ve taken the liberty of removing the stock heatsink retention kit for the photo. What you see there are the bolts for the Susanoo.

mboardb.jpg

Push the bolts through the back plate and motherboard holes and slip on the rubber washers.

I found it easier to fit this by turn the heatsink on it’s head and placing the motherboard on top.

mboardhsa.jpg

Once fitted it towers over the board. Man! that’s a big heatsink you got there.

mboardhsb.jpg

That just looks sooooooooo good.

I love green. There! I’ve said it.

My Peugeot 309 Goodwood GTI was a lovely green, I almost cried when I gave it to my eldest. Celtic wears green.

The Kingston LOVO DDR3 1600 kit is green

kingston.jpg

Don’t they just look sexy in green. Low voltage and overclockable.

Not part of the kit, but the GPU I’ll be using is the MSI GTX580 Lightning

litening.jpg

As you can see, it doesn’t quite fit under the Susanoo. I’ll have to use the second PCI-E X16 slot.

The final picture of the setup.

setup-1.jpg

In the foreground is my Silverstone SST-ST1000P 1000watt modular PSU.

I don’t own a solid state drive yet, so the hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda VB0250EAVER 250Gig.
