Hey all

Im not sure if this is the place to post this but i need help finding a Motherboard that has at least 1 PCI-X slots and that supportd AMD Phenom II X4.

Thanks

Stephen

Did a quick search and couldn't find anything. What do you have that requires a PCI-X slot?

Depends on the Phenom 2. If it is a 940 or earlier then its going to be hard as the DDR3 boards are AM3 and the original P2s dont have the ram controller on die. If it's a 950 or above AM3? then MSI do a whole buttload.

It also depends on what ram you are using mate.. If you can specify then it'll be a lot easier.

Seriously? AMD has had on-die memory controller since A64 launched. I thought everything since had on-die memory controllers.

Asrock Alive Xfire ESATA 2 rev 3.0 if you want cheap and dirty. Crossfire PCIE lanes (dual 8x or single 16x)

Just DO NOT overclock it, you will burn it out (sniff sniff what's that smell?).

Google will help you out but I have used them for over a year and for the cash (£35 brand new) they are untouchable unless you want more performance. If you are using stock clocks ETC they are great

AM2+ only have a DDR2 controller on. AM3 have both. The AM3 chips have less pins so you can't physically fit a AM2+ chip in. This is why I have been limited to DDR2 and couldn't get a DDR3 board as my chip wouldn't do it

Thanks but i need PCI-X for the network adaptor i need (Intel® PRO/1000 MT Dual Port Server Adapter) (for NIC teaming) this motherboard would be inside my File Server. and before you all say it yes i know i shouldn't use Standard computer parts in a file server but i don't want to spend thousands lol just want to upgrade what i already have.

Ah, I get what you are saying. It does have an onboard memory controller, DDR2 though and not DDR3.

Asus do a work staion mobo as I had one. The PCI-X slot isnt that quick though, really depends what you need it for?

I'm pretty sure most of us here use standard parts in our home servers. For a business I'd only use (and only do use) server grade equipment. For home though, I can't afford that kind of premium.

even if i couldn't get one with a pci-x slot does anyone recommend a cheap motherboard that will support NIC Teaming? That will run DDR2 Ram and a AM2+ AMD Phenom II X4

asus mn32ws professional

thats what I had, you may have to hunt pretty hard to find one or watch for a used one on ebay.
