Pc

Yea Hiper and Hiper Power are the same, decent PSUs, look nice too :) however if you can get that PCP+C one, do so. Good question about the power requirements for 7800GS but i would say the same still applies, especially with dual core and overclocking. It would also allow you to add extra hard drives / water cooling / fans upon fans etc.

I wouldnt worry about breaking anything, just do it one step at a time and take your time about it

Ok don't all shake your heads at once but I've been comparing the cost of starting from scratch to buying a Dell with a core 2 duo in and then upgrading bits of it i.e. PSU, graphics card and ???

I could get something like an E520 with : -

Dimension E520 E-value code: [2000][D10E07a]

Base Intel® Core® 2 Duo® E6300 Processor (1.86GHz, 1066MHz, 2MB)

XP Home Edition

1024MB Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz [2x512] Memory

19" Value Flat Panel (E197FP)

Video Card Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3000

Hard Drive 80GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst™

Sell the TFT for around £120 and put it towards a new PSU and a new graphics card.

So in comparing prices the buying the Dell to start with seems like the 'cheaper' option BUT in your opinions are the other parts in the Dell upto the job or is it a definate no no.

Cheers Again.

I would say that Dell are great value IF you will never OC, and if you're never gonna upgrade

Otherwise build you own and KNOW what you're putting into it.

One other thing, is there any point getting XP or should I put Linux on it?

Do all 'modern' games play on Linux?

I would get Windows, as many modern games will not run under Linux.

Have a look into getting at least some of your stuff from Speacialtech. 10% off when your spending that much is well worth it.

How much do you need to spend to get the discount?

That has to have the honour of being one of the ugliest cases I've ever seen

I have to agree with u. But on the other hand my nephew and prehaps his son may just love it >.< ewwwwch lol

As far as WoW is concerned, I`ve played this, and seen it played, on a K7 with gigs and a ~5k / ~6k nVidia and it plays very well.

With the setup u`r looking to makeup, it will not only handle the game well, it will play at very, extremely, high resolutions.

My question would prehaps be if it would use the cores of the processor, alot of modern games still dont. Prehaps again the expansion that is coming out in a matter of weeks will take advantage of it if it doesn`t already.

I don`t know how other players of this game feel, but I know the deciding factor of the way the K7 handled the game was the memory - imo. If any1 asked me how much to get to play the game nicely I would say 1g. The question is then would it be an advantage to have more ?? With the advantages u`d obviously have over a K7 and even a K8 I`m not so sure it`d matter.

Thanks Rastalovich,

To tell you the truth you raised items that I had thought about but felt a little 'stupid' to ask i.e. core 2 duo.... dual processing... but he's only doing 1 thing at once i.e. playing games... so whats the point of 2 dual processing?

There I've asked the question, now off to hide!!

I think you've actually answered my question though. It sounds like the newer games can actually tae advantage of the 'dual processing'.

Back to WOW...he's already looking forward to the new version coming out.

Back to the case... I started looking at it after I spotted this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....60045155476&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1 . £575 seems a very good price to me because my rig is coming in not much less than that that and it's already put together and OC !!

To be honest the guyz are exactly right, the way forward is multiple cores at the moment and as time moves on, more and more games will utilize it. Only when technology evolves will we be back with new single core "normal" processors - as the new.

The thinking behind a single core would be if u were stuck at a set budget prehaps.

Why am I extremely wherey about replying to that ebay ad ?

EDIT: I meant to add, NEVER stop yourself asking a question about something on here. I been messing with computers for a good 20 years, and been on OC3D for a few months prehaps - there is always something mentioned by some1 that I know a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y nothing about, usually oc related - but I`ll be damned if I aint gonna ask "why ?/what ?" - lol. I`m here to learn more imo, if i can add to the flow - all the better.

Not exactly sure what you mean by that....but I can guarantee you that it's not my listing....and I have no idea who's it list....I just thought it a decent price although I would have to add XP on top of the base price.

I'll edit the link and remove it if it's against rules to post such links...I just wanted opinions to see if others thought it a good price or not.

Thanks anyway.

Mick.

Has anyone used this case/psu before

Any comments good, bad or indifferent?

I've just built a new rig for my 5 year old lad and bought this case from Specialtech. :worship:

Not exactly my cup of tea but laddo loves it. He thinks it's a cross between a Transformer and something off Power Rangers :D

(Guess I should register him really. How old's the youngest member?)

I didn't end up using the PSU as I had an Enermax Noisetaker kicking about and I wanted some good stuff for the vintage 9800XT I was sticking in it.

For what it cost tho, OTT chromeness aside, it's an OK case.
