So my pc turned itself off while i was watching netflix. I have changed the power plug and that never done anything. The green LED on my motherboard still lights up so im assuming it still has power going to it ?

My specs are :-

Intel i5-760
Noctua NH-D14
ASUS P7P55 LX
8GB Mushkin Silverline
GTX 670
Antex TruePower 650watt
Samsung F3 1tb
Western Digital 500gb
Windows 8 Pro
Bitfenix Shinobi

Any help is much appreciated,

Dario.

If you mean nothing will do anything when you press the power button, then your power supply has taken a dump on you assuming all your connections are still secure. Even if the motherboard is fried, the case fans would still fire up since theyre plugged into the PSU. But if its stone cold dead then its time for a new PSU.

I'm not so sure about that dude.

When I fried my bios a few weeks ago my PC refused to start with the motherboard plugged in.

Once I removed the board I could power it on myself.

Dario - please try the following.

Unplug your motherboard's 24 pin. Unplug the 8 pin.

Look for the GREEN wire then take a piece of wire or something like a hair pin and short the GREEN wire with the BLACK wire next to it.

See if your PSU starts.

You can use that as a guide there mate.

Ok, so i just done what you said and all my fans, hdds and my leds turn on. So it is not the power supply, could it be the motherboard ?

Yup it's probably the board then.

The PSU could still be faulty of course but if it's starting up then the chances are it's OK.

Leave it unplugged for a while and clear your cmos, removing the battery for about ten minutes.

Have you tried powering the system with no drives or anything plugged into the motherboard?

I would unplug everything you can from the motherboard, see if it powers on.
If it does then you just need to figure out if it's the hdd/gpu/dvd etc..

If it doesn't then it probably is the motherboard

You know I wonder if it could be the video card. If Everything is spinning up like hard drives and such, then the motherboard could be fine. If everything is turning on but the monitor then it could just be the GPU that's the culprit. Just a thought. Motherboards usually seem to either die within the first few days or last 20 years. They normally don't give up the ghost after a good while of use so if you've had this board for a good while and its worked fine, I kinda think it might be something else.

Yeah I agree with ya dude which is why I said if NOTHING powers up then its the PSU. If its just the mobo, any case fans or any other fans plugged directly into the PSU would still spin up. :)

Ok, so i unplugged all my drives and took my gpu out and still not power, i have tried my old 7950GT in there too with all the drives unplugged and still nothing.

Sounds like it might be the motherboard as it's not switching the psu.

The only other sort of extreme thing to do is remove the motherboard, put it onto an insulator (eg: cardboard) and run it with just the ram + cpu as it could a short from the case, altho as it's not a new build it's unlikely to be :(

I guess one good thing is a 2nd hand 1156 motherboard is probably relatively cheap.

It has been running fine for a while now in my case, i think ill just buy a cheap second hand 1156 and then save up some money and buy a new cpu and mobo :(

thanks for all the help guys :)
