PC Gaming on HDTV....

Hi All,

I currently have this TV (49") at home:

and I'm in the process of building a gaming rig to run through it, with a GPU GTX980ti, do you think I will run into issues gaming on this TV with this card?

refresh rate will be crap but otherwise it should run 4k through hdmi 2.0 60fps, not sure about 3d though but then again 980ti wont handle 4k 3d lol

It might look little pixelated until you go into the Nvidia Control Panel and adjust the scaling because it's a TV. If it was a monitor you wouldn't have to do anything. Had to do that when I didn't have a monitor a while back, though it was 1080p not 4k.

But will the picture be sharp and crisp and the games run smoothly?

It's a 4k screen.. obviously yes it will look good, depends on games and settings. It's no different from a 4k monitor.

Thanks guys, well I'm an MMO gamer so I will be playing Elder Scrolls mainly, hopefully it wont be too bad, but I will see how it goes.

TV makers are less clear about the exact panel specifications like the monitor makers are. When you use a TV as a monitor, you need to consider the following
1. TVs normally do quite a bit of post processing that adds up to the display lag
2. They arent optimised for precise inputs and hence you can expect much more input lag
3. The response times on a TV are usually far behind than the monitor counterparts
4. Some tVs obnly have a native refresh rate of 50hz instead of 60 (we can check this and yours is fine)

Dont go by the enhanced refresh rate numbers you see from the Tv makers because when they say 120 hz or sometimes even numbers like 400 hz, the TV is predicting frames to add on top of the native refresh rate. It doesnt look or feel fluid like the high native refresh rate monitors. 60 fps should look more or less the same though.
However, it all depends on how you percieve the experience. A lot of people use TVs for gaming and enjoy it just fine.

The input lag on TV's is usually not that good, As to how smooth the experience will be depends entirely on your PC.
