P67 or Z68

What is the difference between a P67 motherboard and a Z68 motherboard?

After looking around online at specs for both boards the only real difference I can see is that Z68 motherboards support Intel Smart Response Technology. I am already running an SSD as my boot drive and have 7200 rpm HDD as my storage drive and will not be using Intel Smart Response Technology, will I see any benefit by switching from a P67 motherboard to a Z68 board?

They are basically the same board except for a few key features in the Z68 boards.

The main four advantage of the Z68 boards are:

1. Integrated graphics support.

2. Use of Quicksync for video transcoding.

3. SSD Caching.

4. Ivy Bridge support.

More info here as well.

P67 also has Ivy support, all other things are Z68 only though.

Thanks for the info. There is not enough difference to justify changing out my current motherboard based on this.

Yeah, no point in going from P67 to Z68 unless you use the IGP or you want to get a Gen 3 board, but if you are doing that, you may as well wait a couple of weeks and grab a Z77 board.

I am in no hurry. It will be best to wait for the new Z77 stuff to come out.

Could grab a Z77 right now, although I'm not sure the English retailers are already shipping them. The retailers in the Netherlands are shipping some models, including the MSI Z77 GD65.

I dont think they are available in the U.S. yet. Just checked Newegg and was at Frys earlier today. Neither is offering Z77 board yet.
