P55 Motherboards Will Be 'Refreshed'

Think we smelt this one coming.

...and it was mentioned in the preview/review of the Asus Evo - you heard it here first, well not this newsie but the review itself;).

I wonder how long it will be before the refresh thats the question, somewhat of a pita for people who have only just bought their P55 motherboards.

I'll most likely get one, I hate missing out on anything lol. :(

This was the ponderation at the time. We saw the price drops (substancial in some cases) with some relatively new mobos and the brains started ticking.

Too long!

Ok, well I've only read a bit about it and it's mostly guesses at the min I think. There are a few mobo manufacturers that are / will be selling them with just a kind of bolt on card rather than built on to the motherboard.

I think there was a problem with the new chip or something. It shouldn't be long for the motherboards now. Just my guess, but I reckon start of next year really.

As for drives, I think this was the first one out: Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS (not a link.. search ya lazy sod before you say anything).

I have seen a few Sata 6GB/s cables about though.

To be honest, I don't think it'll make much odds over HDD's but should do over decent SSD's.

Better?

Much ;)

So the whole sata3 thing isn't worth postponing my build for, I'm not using ssds... Besides this one is going to be matx.

B4 any1 does anything, I'd prefer to see some benchies of stuff badged "6gbps" against the same stuff b4 the badge was stuck on.

Got a real sneak suspicion that an arse-load of companies will use this merely as a marketing ploy for selling existing stuff that works on the channel just as it did on the older 3gbps channel. The controller on the mobo being the thing that produces the speed thru-put.

Ofc there will be legitim8 cases too.
