P4 3.4EE has landed (in my Mach2 hehe)

Hiya guys,

Well decided it was a change and got a P4 3.4EE ;). Being a big AMD fan I was a little worried because I didn't know what to expect (the last Intel proc I had was a P1 133Mhz!!). Needless to say after installing this thing I am MORE than happy lol.

Within 30min I had it at 4Ghz which is an achievement for me as the fastest proc I've ever had was a Barton 3000+ doing 3.5Ghz, and not very stable at all!!

Well just thought I'd keep everyone updated on my progress with this chip, so it will go in here :D.

Cheers

Presumably thats under the Mach II yeah? If so, notch it up to around 4.3ghz, you should be able to quite easily. These EE cpus with their 2mb cache are nice, you notice the difference over the standard Northy, Prescott variety.

For those of you interested the 3.4EE @ 4.3ghz = the FX53 @ 3ghz. Pretty impressive stuff eh? What with the imminent release of the FX55, I think I might be going back to AMD. ;)

Yes mate, under my Mach2. I'm more impressed with the performance of this than I was with the FX to be completely honest. Mays just be me but the startup times cut nearly in half with this EE from the FX and everything loads a lot faster.

Just put my gig of Corsair in here and now it really is flying through everything I throw at it. Super Pi isn't as immpressive as the FX tho. Can only manage 39s whereas the FX did 29s but I'm not into that sorta benching.

I'll be going for 4.4Ghz soon. Need to get the hang of clocking these things with all the RAM dividers and whatnot lol.

Hey, thats looks good to me.

I have a DFI Lanparty PRO875B MOBO, OCZ DDR550 and Prescott 3.2.

Using my Mach II (thanks Phil) with Lian Li kit on, the best stable overclock I could get is 4.3Ghz.

At those speeds SuperPi 1m test was 32secs (not bad), 32M test was 26m 11s (beat that score!!).

I am also in the top 5 for Custom PC beat the office (1.78) where DAZBOOTS is no2.

Where it all fell over was 3dmark2001se - using 6800GT running 415/1200 my best score was 25465, loads behind!! although 5401 in 3dm05 and 13365 in 3dm03 was better - it seems prescott is not so good for 3d.

SO I now have me a 3.2ee CPU (£275 from ebay!!), which I have put in my machine, volts default to 1.55v, but temps seem higher than the prescott at stock??

I have not pushed it yet as I am just going through a fresh installation to make sure I get rid of any registry crap.

My questions are:

How many volts can these babies take?

What temps should I typically get if overclocked to say 4.1Ghz (which is what I expect to achieve)?

I am wondering whether to re-seal the machII head (no signs of conensation/freezing on the outside though).

Cheers for that maverik.

I was tempted to get the DFI board but have been put off by my Ultra2B bein a little crap to say the least lol. Looks like you got good results tho nice one :D.

On the point of the volts I've stuck 1.875v through mine with no harm done that I can see lol, runs at 1.825v all other times. My board flutuates the voltage like a possesed board from hell and I've seen it hit 1.95v at one point.

On the temp front, I'm running a Mach II also and my temps are -31 writing this overclocked on the 3.4EE to 4Ghz, Mach II display says -48 for the evap. Thats with 1.88v on the Vcore. I cant get mine any higher because of the fluctuation in the voltages and my RAM's crap for Intels.

What are your current temps?

Cheers

The 55's land on monday from what I been told but I wont be getting one until after my hols I am still waiting for my 3200 to turn up grrrrrrrrrrr so now I have to use the wife's laptop :(

:p Ooops and I haven't even been drinking lool congrats on the p4 mate now gimme some benches wooohooooo

lol cheers, I'll be benching it when my X800 comes back from RMA which is due anytime soon :D. May do a run of 2k1 with my 5950U but depends if i can b bothered lol.

Been about a month or 2 already, I just want my X800 back NOW!!!!

I am still pratting around for stability at the moment, but at 1.825v (BIOS readiing) and 260FSB temps are now similar to yours (-50 display -35 CPU temp). All at normal MACHII fan settings.

Because I can't get it stable (hence I am still tinkering) I can't tell you the load temps (doesn't stay on long enough to run 32m superpi).

The temps settled down after I formatted and re-installed, so no need to re-seal the head.

It's a promising project as at 255fsb and stock on the 6800GT (370/1000) I was able to get 26885 in 3dmark2001se, 1200 points higher than my best ever Prescott score with 415/1200 6800GT settings.

I'll keep you informed as things progress.

Let me know about the setting the unit to boot in turbo mode.

Cheers

FATBOY - I have no idea what you were on about, your thread does not follow anything we have on this thread -

How do I get my MACHII to boot in TURBO mode?

Mav,

Load up the control software and set the fans to turbo in that. When they hit turbo close the prog and they will stay at turbo mode i've found. Did it by accident once. Couldn't figure out why my PC was so loud and opened the control software to change my bootup temp and noticed it then lol, about a week ana half after wonderin wats goin on lol.

I can't get mine anything over 240FSB atm. My RAM is being a complete unwilling booger atm and won't do anything. I also think my DDR Booster is up the spout aswell, need to take it out and reseat it I think but it's not changing voltages anymore . What board are you using?

Fatty - Yea I do believe they are lol...... only kiddin, the guys down @ Kustom PC are waiting for a good clocking batch to come in for me, after I was talking to them @ i21 about clocking them and the proc they said they'd RMA me with a hand picked, tested pro VIVO that will do XTPE and over speeds. Just waiting for the batch to come in, should be this week actually :D.

Cheers

I tried that one Boardy, I still got the same - will try again once it's stable.

having upped the volts in BIOS as high as 1.9 and as low as 1.75 I am resigned to the fact that perhaps 260FSB is not possible.

Dropped down to 258 (at 1.75v) and having a play at that now - RAM is not the problem for me as the OCZ PC4400 Gold EL will run at 272FSB on this set-up with Prescott 3.2.

I asked DFI if I could use RAM boosters on the lanparty PRO875B board, they said it was not compatable so I have to do the best I can with what I have.

The only good things about running at a lower FSB is perhaps I can run PAT in HPS3 configuration and realy ge the ram working well.

One problem - the timings are 2.5 4-4-4-8, don't seem to be able to improve on that if I disable PAT and manually adjust, is that your experience also?

Mav

Do you know what your Vcore is doing all the time its being clocked high? It may be that like me you need a Vdroop mod to keep it all nice and stable. My board has one installed but in all my wisdom while fitting my Mach II head managed to pull one of the wires from the VR away from under the mounting kit and I really can't be bothered to replace it atm lol.

As far as RAM goes, I have no idea about Intel RAM speeds having just switched over from AMD. I'm just trying to figure the whole RAM thing out myself lol. I'll let you know if I figure anything useful out but atm I just leave it at standard setting which is a shoddy 3-4-4-8 on my RAM . I want OCZ!!!

What do I need to check the vcore while in windows?

Should I install Motherboard Monitor?

Then what should I do? I am assuming open up something like superpi and have the dashboard showing at the same time and monitor the vcore?

Yeah Intel RAM is FSB heavy, not sure that you can actually do that much with timings, but OCZ offer best CAS setting for DDR550.

Intel boards do not take to CAS2 on high FSB, so 2.5 is the best you can hope for I think?

MBM is the best thing to use. Just watch it fluctuate!!! Mines crazy lol.

Just install, display the dash and run a proc heavy app and it'll most probly go nuts or jump about a bit. My mates IC7-G does it, my P4P800-E does it and im guessin ure DFI will aswell. If not I know what board I'm getting ;).

Cheers for the info on the RAM, think I need to talk to Daz again about his OCZ PC4400 cos we sposd to be swapping :D. Mines PC4000 and is AMD RAM not Intel from my old FX53, so it's annoying to use in this rig.

Cheers

I got Dazz's old 4200 ocz in my amd machine what fsb have you had your ram up to in your old amd rig?? this stuff does 270 without the booster

I've got me OCZ Platinum PC3200 LE (lovely lovely BH6 goodness) to 250 FSB with a booster (this stuff loves voltage like Jenna Jameson loves.....)

Am currently outta action with the Prommy and P4 setup tho, as I am still faffing about aligning the custom chassis for me Black Widow and modding the case som more (polished internals anyone?) so am back to my NF7-S, which decided to doe a horrible death on me the other day, and scare the absolute bejesus outta me when it wouldnt POST.

Hopefully I'll have some nice benchies to share when I get me rig back up, and I'm very tempted to go look for a cheap EE now. You gits ;)

Fatty - Had this Corsair XMS TwinXpro PC4000 up to about 270/280 in my Barton rig in a Mach I which was an amazing rig, wish I'd kept it now . It's sat at 240 in this Intel one and doesn't seem to want to budge any further which is annoying me somewhat!!

I have some lovely lovely OCZ BH5 here but only got 2x256Mb sticks of it which I don't like using 24/7 cos I like the boost of 1Gb in games and stuff. May whack it in tomoz and see what I can push this 3.4EE up to with that on my day off college :D.

Think my booster has gone bad on me though so it may be voltage holding me back atm, will have to check tomoz. Can't be ****d to rip it all apart again now lol.

Boardy

Nice what voltage do you have to throw at the xms to get it up to those speeds?? I dont like putting too much through my 64's mem controler that may have helped kill my fx still not too sure what it was so this time I want to be a little careful lol
