Can an overclocked machine function to run 24 hours for several days, or would it bust the CPU and other components?

Yes, unless you run at some insane volts.

I ran a Q6600 @ 3GHz for 3 years and nothing happened to it.

It should be fine, guess it depends on how much it's overclocked but I have had overclocked servers running 24/7 without any problems.

(should be ok as long as it's been stability tested and the temps are reasonable)

but look at those crazy F@H guys.. they run their rigs overclocked under full F@H load 24/7 Their crazy i SAY you !!

Lol, and the people that overclock like that probably have some insane cooling setup too and spend way too much on their computers. I'm just going to try and get my 980x at a decent oc that's nice for 24/7 but keep speedstep and turbo on for gaming.
